    This is hypothetical at the moment .......

    The idea is to test inks and pignents for Infra red absorbtion and reflection.

    My idea [other than using my IR night vision gear, which not everyone has to hand] ....

    take a tv remote and a ohp transparency and see if you can get the tv to change channel by firing the remote through it, the angling the transparencey to reflect ir on to the tv. Taking a second transparency and coating it with say black ink from a permenate marker and repeat from the same distances.

    This can be repeated for the various inks and pigments .....the various distances that you will need to be from the appliance will give an indication as to the efficiency of the ir absorber.

    any thoughts ?

    Digital cameras are also sensitive to IR, so useful for checking if remotes work - the signal becomes visible as white flashes on the screen. Try it - might be a an easy alternative to IR night vison gear...

    Ok.......taking felix's advice .....

    coloured several squares on a ohp transparency

    using pens from edding, uni, stablo boss, paper mate, just what I had about the place....

    colours used included blue red green black
