The standard fit front loader CD player/radio in my M3 started playing up badly. Wouldn't play many CDs, esp. not copy-protected ones and the RDS bit of the radio was also unusable.

So, I bought myself a new head unit, a Becker Mexico Pro CD 4627 and it's absolutely brilliant, a post about it will follow later. However, I wanted to see if I could fix the old BMW (made by Blaupunkt) unit but I'm stumped:

I've removed all the visible torx head screws on each side and that has done precisely nothing. The box is still just as well sealed as it ever was. Anyone know more about fixing car stereos who can suggest something? I imagine they are all fairly similar.

There seems to be a complex system of interlocking metal tabs and brackets but I'll be damned if I can work out how to open up the box :(

OK, worked it out. You do have to bend a few of those metal tabs and then the top cover comes off nicely. Just removing the CD transport module now :) I wonder if replacements are available...
