Saw this at the Soho Curzon (great cinema btw - worth the £8.50 ticket!) the other day and can recommend it highly.

Its set in Europe, so the Japanese dub seemed a bit awkward. Disney has an excellent English voice cast lined up for it though. If its anything like Mononoke, we'll be in for a treat.

As usual with Miyazaki, there are plenty of jaw-dropping moments. Pure imagination at work here. Genuine creativity, lovingly expressed. I'm not surprised the animator list is about 1000 people long! It must have taken them an age to draw!

In terms of story, it doesn't hang together quite as well as Mononoke or Spirited, but its still a breathtaking spectacle and and funnier than both his previous efforts.

Need to see this, his films are wonderful and look fantastic.

Haven't been to the Soho Curzon since they refurbished it the other year, great cinema and Fopp is just down the road so can buy lots of cheap albums as well :D

They've done a great job on the refurb - and so they should. It is the jewel in the west-end's cinema crown.

Very cosmopolitan bunch in there too. No popcorn-throwing, mobile phone using, cola guzzling teenagers in there either.

Unlike UCI/UGC/Vue, they don't turn the volume up to maximum either. Speech is very clear & crisp. Plenty of low-end weight too when its needed.

Screens are ever so slightly concave though, (a function of the limited space I guess). Quality picture though.

Bit cheaper than the leicester square flicks too.

Ahh yes been waiting for this for ages. Must go and see it, think its out at my local arts picture house. Trouble is their seats are really bad for my back. Probably worth it for this though.

One of the reasons I hate going to the cinema - do people actually eat popcorn anywhere else ?

Might head over there Saturday as I'm stuck in Essex this weekend due to a large launch I have to do Sunday at 05:00. Be nice to see the the refurbishment and grab a decent film as well.

I was considering taking my son to see this, but as it was kind of slated in the press I decided against it... would it be suitable for an almost six year old or should I go for Curse of the Were Rabbit instead?

We saw it last night and were favourably impressed. Nothing wrong in taking a six year old to see it, except at 2 hours long it may not hold their attention right through.
