I think the wild speculation thinks that BMW's designers saw a merc in the car park

The ALFA is very nice indeed but I'm afraid the 250 GTO (the original) is still the most special IMO. In it's day it was pretty much unbeatable.

The designer of the Merc obviously saw the 5 series lights.
