If I ever get a turntable....

I agree that TTs are 90% pride of ownership + exclusivity and 10% sound, for me its 90% laziness and 10% sound in favour of CDs... :MILD:
 
I ahve a lowly P25 although with a slightly trick cart (and soon, I hope a trick phono stage) and the sound is bloody marvellous, and the software, assuiming you know what to look for ;) , stupidly cheap. TTs are fab, and you don't need some overpriced pile of canuck perdy neo-junk to hear it either.

No, it's 100% about superior sound (to CD), and there's the fact that there is a huge catalogue of music which will probably never be available to CD-only users.

Probably true, but it's not a catalogue I'm extremely interested in. As it is I listen to less than half of my CDs on a regular basis!

I'm not anti-TT at all and I can understand all the reasons for owning one but so far there isn't a reason compelling enough for me.

I'm totally with Mike on this one, but why is it that the main protagonists seem to be those who PREFER elpees, why can they not accept that some of us prefer the advantages of Cd given our collections, seems that initial smugness that came around when cds first launched seems to be creeping back, Sorry BUB I prefer CD's and no amount of badgering by you guys will make me believe you are right, I can accepth that you think they are superior and am happy for you, so why not reciprocate, after all i believe I would prefer the sound my kit makes to yours with all that ugly angle iron, but that doesn't mean i am right just different.

because like all anachrophiles they are a little unsure of themselves and prefer to stick with what they know. see whats happening with dvd-a (titter), sacd and hard drive audio. supposed better quality and / or hugely more convienient and yet there are those that are less than impressed. it's the way of things. each to their own i say.

Michael, interesting to see that the turntable in your upper picture has one of the Wilson Benesch unipivot carbon fibre arms. I always fancied a WB turntable, especially a Full Circle (the first of the minimalist turntables, now copied by the likes of SME, and to me the only half-way affordable one in the range), but the new price in Swizzieland was 'way higher than the price for which I got my second-hand LP12/Ekos/K9. Alas, no contest.
