OK, as you all know, its now 3 full weeks since I stopped the "evil weed", lol, and perhaps predictably I've since stopped seeing my stoner mate quite a lot, in fact I've probably only really seen him a couple of times in the last 3 weeks. I've stopped going to his house and generally now only see him if I'm out and about when he is.

Anyway, I was talkin to him on MSN yesterday when I told him I had the house to myself.

Long story short, got a phonecall tonight, it was him, asking if he could come up. Fair enough thought I...

So up he comes, and its tonight I realise that he does in fact actually irritate the crap outta me!

He never seems to shut up, and what he says is invariably a load of bollox, he just seems to like the sound of his own voice. He just talks constantly about his crappy job, or tells me of the latest road rage incident he's had (he claims to have one every day).

He is such a clumsy bugger as well. He brings a bottle of red wine, and pours himself a glass. Then he spills it on the floor, and then proceeds to blame the glass, saying its "too small". FFS!

Then he takes his shoes off, and the smell of his stinking feet fill the air. He then gets the hickups and starts making hickup, burping, slurping and licking sounds... in fact he just seems incapable of sitting quietly for more than about 10 bloody seconds!

Finally about 45 minutes ago he fell asleep, so he's now sitting downstairs, asleep, snoring loudly and talking to himself in his sleep.

Bloody hell, this may sound a bit nasty of me to make a post like this, but he really has ****ed me off tonight, by just being himself. A sure sign that I must be thinking differently, because somehow, I managed to put up with this for years, admittedly being under the influence.

So as much of a bastard as this must make me sound, I dont really forsee me wishing to put up with him on a regular basis any longer. I almost wished he hadnt bothered coming over now

Maybe the weed was making you more forgiving, maybe the weed was making you less perceptive, dulling your senses, etc. Maybe your lack of weed has made you more irratible, and your pal isn't such a bad fella at all , but now you only see his bad points.

Who knows, persoanlly i reckonthat giving up your former pastime can only be a good thing.

BTW, not had any noticable 'incidents' with my lad recently. I'm sure that he won't have given up smoking weed altogether ( although he might have). He doesn't seem to hang about with his deadbeat pals quite so much, and his college people seem to be happy with his progress, attendance , etc so here's hoping...

And Paul keep up the effort you know it makes sense...

    Told you so ;)

These are the facts of you new beginning. The good news is this, he is still a stoner, the next time he calls to come round say you are busy, very quickly he will get the message and as you are both blokes nothing more will be said of it.

Time for you to move on.

    Hows your weight?

I can see where Paul's coming from with this; I don't want to presume to say what Paul's thinking (as I'm probably wrong) but it might well be that when you (Paul) was hanging out with this guy it was a symbiotic relationship as you had somewhere other than home where you could go "for a smoke", so even if he WAS irritating, you'd put up with it.

Trying to talk to someone who's in a different state to you is invariably tiring - if they're spouting codsh** and you're sober, it'll REALLY wind you up!

Now you're clean you suddenly realised you don't have a good excuse to hang out with this guy, and he therefore irritates you.

As for the not shutting up and spilling red wine thing, all I can say is you'd hate me if you met me then - he he! Although I usually spill wine down my neck, not on the carpet :)

You now have a yardstick so you can measure your progress to see just how far you have come in such a short time.

Kudos to you dude, prehaps the dude is no longer appropriate?

He he - good one :) Big Lebowski rules!

BTW - I've now managed 2 weeks and 3 days without smoke of either kind - nicely!

2 weeks and 3 days without smoking maybe, but vapour?

Removing the tobacco/nicotine is a good start though. Especially as you've not been avoiding the pub and regular smokers!

OK - hands up! I did try that vapouriser thingy (just the twice!) but it is WAY too full-on. Clean break only option - including cakes at parties methinks!

I have no idea - it's a mate's. It looks like one of those "emergency" flashing lights that you stick on the roof of your car (with a yellow glass dome, and a blue base).

Aha - looks like this (but in blue with yellow glass):

Waaaaay too hectic - and this comes from someone with a once-decent tolerance to the stuff (another reason to give up - too effing expensive!)

Well I dunno if anyone is interested, and I expect (rightly so) the reaction to be fairly negative... but this person who I am speaking of was locked up last night, after being caught at the wheel after a bottle of wine and a spliff.

    Oh dear!

Personally I always thought vaporisers were overrated.

What do they do? Basically inside the glass jar you can see a "bowl". You put your weed into the bowl, plug put the glass top back on, and plug the vaporiser into the mains.

The vaporiser then heats up the bowl supposedly to the exact temperature where THC is released as vapour, however, it does not ignite the mixture - the idea behind it is that there is no purpose to igniting the mixture as 1. it kills the THC if its subject to too high a temperature and 2. vapour is harmless to the lungs - once cannabis is actually ignited, that is when it releases many of the carcinogens.

The only thing is, speaking personally, I found the theory to be better than the practice. For me, a bong was always a LOT more powerful a hit, despite the theoretical advantage of the vapouriser. I would probably say only those used to smoking joints would find them a strong hit.

I'm not entirely happy with the discussion of drug-taking paraphenalia. The original subject of the thread, ie related to the benefits of getting off the stuff is fine, but discussing the relative merits of different ways of taking illegal drugs is not.
