The cheapest mac book is 749 inc VAT - Thats a 1.83 Ghz dual core with 60gb disk and 512mb ram.

Optical digital out, 13 inch screen, its all quite nice. Runs XP as stated .....

    Not quite 600 tho.

Isaac, before jumping like a gimp have a little read round you might want to check theregister first who have done a review of dells performance in the last year. Dell have showed 0% growth and are starting to get slaughtered in the server market. Their decision to stick soley with intel because intel pays for their advertising is now working against them. Exploding batteries has not helped.
Apple is going from strength to strength BTW, showing another record year.

Also you might do a search on the recent full inspection carried out in the China Factories where 13% of output is apples, where improvements were needed they were stated.

    Here are the links:

    Have a nice weekend.

Paul I picked up a s/h 12" Ali powerbook G4 last weekend and must admit that i'm well impressed with it. Even though on paper it seems to be a fairly low spec item ( ie 867MHz chip and only 640 mb of Ram ) compared to the newer models it seems to zip along like a good 'un. At no point in the last week have i been hacked off at its lack of speed, or capability. my normal desktop machine has a 2.5GHz AMD chip and IGb of ram and doesn't now seem to be that much sharper, I suppose that i should also add that the 12" PB is hasn't been filled full of crap as yet and my desktop is jam packed and I often have loads of windows and apps going on at the same time....

I'm just in the process of filling up the iTunes library with my favorite CD's. I have the PB sitting on top of the Hi-Fi and plugged in to my Tuner input and reckon that it doesn't sound half bad either, certainly good enough for my modest needs. Had to play about with the onboard sound graphic equaliser first though, to get it just so :)

I paid £450. It seems quite a lot when you can buy a new XP Lappy for £300 these days, however it looks comparable to similar spec mac machines i've been tracking on e-pay over recent weeks. Mine has Airport exteme, a superdrive DVD burner and a brand new Battery fitted. I picked the machine up in person from just down the road and the seller (JTC ) had re-installed the OS and other software for me , set the machine up for me and also took the time to give me a good 2 hour plus tutorial on the basics with the promise of further help if required. You don't get that via e-bay...
That was a week ago and I'm still happy with my purchase.
