Andy, what you are describing is work hardening of metals. Brings back memories for me when I was a teenager learning about Mechanical Engineering. Anyway, rather than explain this phenomenon here's the first link I came across after Googling.

There's also age hardening but that's for another Google:).

    Thanks Dev,

I 'think' from reading between your link and what i found, there is a change of some kind in the structure when metal is work hardened.
Of course, this does not support the claims of sonic changes tho.

    I can't hear them.

    Sorry.

I unplug my cables every few weeks to update my mp3 player with new LPs for work. Can't say it ever sounds any different.

Think most of the horses got trapped now, but I might have found you another chance for improvement:

    Specs at: cable tower.

I'm afraid that given location and pedigree, I can't comment on that. :(

I remember reading somewhere (never a good way to start a sentence) that OFC cable was first developed to reduce bending fatigue in copper cables. It was following this the hi-fi fraternity seized upon the marginally higher purity of OFC and imbued it with all sorts of sonic advantages.

Much the same as with PTFE as a dielectric.

Discovered this in the Tones Hi-Fi Songbook:

What shall we do with a floor-laid cable
What shall we do with a floor-laid cable
What shall we do with a floor-laid cable
    To enhance its sounding?

    Hoor-ray and up she rises
    Hoor-ray and up she rises
    Hoor-ray and up she rises
    Improvement resounding!

Raise 'em from the floor to counter static
    Differences found will be dramatic
    Really big improvement automatic
    Ignore sceptics' hounding

    Hoor-ray and up she rises
    Hoor-ray and such surprises
    Hoor-ray we know who's wisest
    Sceptics sure confounding!

Have you thought of starting a travelling show? Southern baptist preacher type style, Rev Tones leading everyone in a rousing hifi hymn praise the lord can I have a hallelujah and so forth. Fundamentalist hifi :)

The Rev. Tones already has his own private pulpit over on HFC, where he regularly expounds the True Faith to a lost and sinful world:

But careful! There are more than 20 other songs in the Tones Hi-Fi Song Book. One day, I'm going to inflict them all on some poor forum.
