MSN Replacement Idea guys

Guys as you may/may not know on October 14th 2003 MSN messenger and Yahoo etc are stopping for good, due in no small part to nasty evil toe rags who needs the nads boiling in hot tar.
Now quite a few of us use this servicem, so any idea's on how we can get over/round this cheers WM

I thought it was just the chatrooms they were shutting down WM.
I think the instant messenger is still okay.

Yep I confirm it is just the chat rooms they are shutting down, the MSN messenger service will continue.

Its just the open chat rooms that Microsoft are closing.

Have a look through this Slashdot | MSN Cuts Unmonitored Chatrooms Around the Globe posting and see what you think. I tend to favour the IM wars, 3rd party lockout and market share as the main reason for this action.

I've seen the MSN anouncment.. but I didn't know that Yahoo were doing the same thing.. not that it bothers me..

I'm curious now because of a post I've seen in another forum talking about the government banning chatrooms....

anyone know anything about this... as I haven't seen anything about it in the news..

I wonder if Skype could be used? It seems to be a P2P VOIP but I don't thinh it will work all that well on a dialup but with a fast link you might be able to chat with anyone anywhere for not too much.
