5 MOnths after my birthday, my older brother turned up today and gave me a belated pressie.

A rather large box and a card saying "Here's a friend to keep you company while you can't go out" (refering to not being able to go out for 2 weeks because of my throat op).

    Hmmm...

What could it be? Keeping in mind my families tendancies for odd pressies (unicycles, digereedoos, origami and balloon MOdeling kits, etc...), I didn't know what to expect when opening the box.

    So, what was it?

    Robosapien!!! (http://www.robosapienonline.com)

Quite possibly the coolest present ever :)

Should keep me occupied till I'm back out and about!

He's really good! Obviously the adverts are a bit OTT. his pick up function it quite fussy. I'm sure with a bit of practice i'll have it sorted though. Can't make him throw properly either. MOre of a sort of lift it in the air and drop thing going on so far.

If it has remote control, is it truly a robot? I think a robot should be autonomous.

Robot: A machine (sometimes resembling a human in appearance) designed to function in place of a living agent; a machine which carries out a variety of tasks automatically or with a minimum of external impulse (SOED)

Pressing a button is abut as minimal as it gets?

He has sensors which you can program him to react in certain ways when activated. Both sort of buttons on his feet, aswell as sound responsive.

"Robosapien is the first robot based on the science of applied biomorphic robotics. "

Anyhow, I'd rather think of him as a person :)

    Just need a name now.
