My laptop has built in freeview digital with what I thought was a standard coax socket on the back but it isn't. The hole in the middle that the coax pin should go into is too small, I was wondering if its an NTSC socket? Does anyone know what it is as I want to get a convertor for it.
    Cheers

I think the Americans use F connectors for their aerial signals. We in the UK use them also for our satellite connections. Is there a thread on the outside part of the socket?

Alternatively try the laptop makers website for a copy of the manual and have a look at the contents list for the name of any supplied accessory connectors.

Yeah I saw those in maplin, I can't see a thread but I can't see inside very easily either. Looking at it again my description was pretty poor, a standard uk tv socket has a pin surrounded by a circular ground piece, this actually looks more like a miniature phono socket, theres a metal surround which contacts on the outside. The inside is nylon with a small hole in the middle.
The manual & website are no help unfortuantely.
I might pick up one of the F type connectors tomorrow and see it it fits.

EDIT: just noticed theres a satelite connector on the wall next to me, it looks alot like that, I thought the threads would be on the socket surround, not on the actual outer bit of the phono bit (theres a terrible description and a half). I'll get one tomorrow and try it, I assume it just wires up to a piece of coax like a normal PAL plug would?
    Cheers for the help

If you are going to a Maplins why not take the laptop with you?

BTW, there's no difference between NTSC and PAL as far as sockets and connectors are concerned. You just need to find the correct on for linking your kit to the regular UK aerial connector.

Couldn't take the laptop in as I didn't want to carry it round all day. Wish I had! Bought an f-type. I'm positive it is some kind of f-type connector, the middle looks identical to the female ones they had in the shop but mine has no thread on it?! And no room to fit the threaded nut on the connectors in. I'm going to try and break the threaded bit off to see if it'll go in. This is rediculous.
