No offence Kenneth but your comments seem to place you in this group

Ah, also Microsoft are dropping Office for the Mac are they not?

Don't think so – the Microsoft Office girl went on stage at the recent Apple conference stating something like 5 years guaranteed (which is the most any developer will ever give – it's is a long time in IT). Office for Mac is a good money maker for Microsoft, I'd be amazed if they killed it.

Tony.

PS agree about over-smugness of Mac community re: security exploits. Will be interesting to see how effective / speedy Apple are at plugging the loopholes.

Paul, offence taken.

If people are honest they will find equal amounts of smugness on both sides.

Avanzanto, if your friend had purchased from Apple, they would have sent a courier with the correct sized box to take the computer back in, he must have saved himself £3 and bought elsewhere.

That article by the way was written by a PC user and herin lies the problem.

You cannot have a widget installed without your express permission. He is wrong.

The rest of the piece basically states that it is bloody difficult to infect a mac, and would come down to user stupidity, this is rather different to smugness.

Its the same old rubbish. I think this year will be the year someone tries to attack Mac OSX, but one thing is for certain its going to be a damn site more difficult than attacking windows.

Smugness comes from two important elements, 1, it is widely agreed that OSX is more difficult to 'infect'

2, and importantly there is significant user community far far better than anything you can find with PC/Windows, because of our 'smugness' we talk, and talk leads to better protection its just the way it is.

However something is going to happen this year, something baaaaddd, (said in a horror film, old wise man kinda way)

But there again, they have been saying that for the last 6 years.

Not a friend but someone we do work for and he's a longtime Mac user.

and come on there's huge PC 'community' happily talking to each other, else how would 'we' get the machines to work correctly.

That is the one thing I hate about Apple the most, the poser issue. Having said that I am guilty of having a Sony mobile phone which I cannot afford to get credit for:D

Sony laptops/PC's are just as bad too... poser value and that's it. They look nice, but they're disasterously under-specced for the price and seem to break down very quickly.

Their phones aren't terrible though.

I don't know about the 'poser' thing - but it is true that women usually want to sleep with me when they see the Powerbook. Of course, if I showed them the G5 they'd have multiple orgasms....*

Why should good design be a bad thing?

John

* all of this is a joke, for those who don't get it :D
