So with the MOve to digital, I'm playing with editing software for the first time.

    And I'm somewhat clueless :D

I have photoshop, which I've hardly even opened.
Nikon Capture NX which I've played a bit.
And having got the free product key with the extreme III cards, I now also have Capture One.

I'm being nagged for birthday present hints.
Can anyone suggest some good (ie, used them yourself and can vouch for them) guides that'll turn me from novice to genius in double quick time? :D

I also wanted some sort of guide specific to the camera itself (D80), but they don't seem to be available yet.

    How about Adobe Lightroom?

And if you want to improve your photographer skills as well why not ask for a workshop with a master you fancy (Ex. David Alan Harvey)? Many do them, sometimes in exotic locations but they're not cheap...

    Thanks for the reply.

    Lightroom's a RAW editor yeah?

I've already got the 3 mentioned (as well as RawShooter and PictureProject), which I don't know how to use properly. I don't think adding another would be a good idea just now :D

C'MOn! Some of you must surely have a book or such you can suggest?

Hey, if I could read, I wouldn't be working in IT!!!

Try PFM, some keen photographers there.

just play with photoshop, read how to use the tools and practice them, then spend time trying to use them for things there weren't meant to be used for.

all the best guys use photoshop in ways the designers didnt consider.

been using it since way back when, when it used to be shipped with the barney-scan slide scanners. think it was called image pro back then.
