Silver Cables from Zanash

About 2 months ago I started looking to sort the cables out on my system. I'm part way there now, still got speaker cable to go, but so far I'm happy. Considered lots of stuff, mostly bargain basement, I was thinking up to about £120 a component, and doing it over a period of time. Then I saw a couple of things on ebay that looked very interesting. I was ready to order a few things and suck them as it were, when a certain gentleman of the forum offered to make a few things for me to try out.
I've currently got two different breeds of his cable in the system, and he won't be getting them back that's for sure.
So what are they?
The first one I tried is in Zanashes own words:

conductors 0.5mm 4n silver in oversized ptfe sleeves, as a tightly twisted pair, within a vibration damping sheath, covered with a nylon braid, secured with bog standard heatshrink. RCA plugs gold plated WBT style locking collar, look good but not sonically up to bullets! but then they are significantly cheaper !

How does it sound? In a nutshell terrific. Compared to the £30 monster cables I was using the clarity and depth was extra-ordinary. I connected them to the Sansui TU-717 and listened to an entire morning of R3. The transformation was unbelievable. The Sansui always sounds good, but today it just sounded so right. Even Mrs Summit, an audio cloth ears commented that one piano piece sounded unbelievably lifelike. The best thing for me about this cable is it just does the job without drawing attention to itself. It sounds so right you don't think about it. I tried for ages to find fault, and really struggled. I had soundstage I had clarity, and I had detail. For what it costs it is unbelievable

He then sent me another one of these and a new cable he's developed. Zanash describes it like this:

The conductors cross over back and forth around the vibration absorber. The ptfe sleeve is fractionally larger to. Again covered in a grey nylon expandable sleeve. The next version up has different diameter conductors too.

At first I hated this cable, I didn't have the heart to say though, so I put up with it for a while, and again connected it to the Sansui. I ran it like this for a couple of weeks, on and off. Then calamity, my amp went pop. The cable trial was postponed whilst my amp went to be re-valved and fettled (Thanks Audiolabs of Leeds) and in the meantime I picked up one of Les W's modded Arcams.

I plugged it all together and did a bit of playing, and the new cable this time sounded much, much better. Compared to the first cable it isn't night and day, but there is definitely something in it. There might be just a bit more detail, a sense of greater separation between instruments, and the bass is even more present and correct. You won't be getting this one back either unless you beg for it Zanash!

Zanash asked me to make this warts and all, well I'm sorry but I couldn't find any warts to really comment on. I used to use some Van Damme wire connected with Eichmanns, but they had nothing on these wires. The monster cables I picked up for a pittance off ebay were totally outclassed, as was the rather fancy looking wire that came with my TT. From the box they are spitty, and not kind to your tweeters. I hadn't realised that the first one had been burnt in but the second two hadn't. Give them a bit of time, and they open out unbelievably.

So I've now got two different runs going. Two of the first type on the TT, and the second type on the CD. I like them both and would find it incredibly hard to choose between them. In absolute terms I think the second one is better, but only just. I've got one more component to kit out, and for the tuner I'll probably pick the second type.

So thanks Zanash, they're great. They've improved my system, and have made it better to listen to. I honestly can't see how in a relatively modest system like mine they could be bettered.

Just to add to the above.
I've known Zanash for roughly a year, and have used a number of cables that Zanash has kindly put together for what are very good prices.
Without fail, all of those cables have massively out performed almost any similar commercial cables.
Definitely one of the stars on this forum.

he also modded my old mf x-act dac - a true gent to know

Thanks ...I thought my ears were burning for a reason !

what can I say ............

There is another cable the DNA ....but thats suited so those who want build it as a kit. ie is fiddly and time consuming but the results are worth it. Rsand has a set of these that he likes.

I'll need a name for cable one and two ....ant thoughts ?

you can't use Zombie...as thats going to be another on coming project.

the cables are designated Tp and Pp for twisted and parallel pairs for cable one

the xlo style or cable two is either matched or unmatched diameters of the conductors.

If other people are intrested in the cable, design or the kit drop me a line

......but please remember, this is not a commercial enterprise nor do I wish to make it one .......I'm happy to do ones and two's but I do have a life, away from my research and development centre [shed] !

looks like I'm going to have to do an article on cables ....simple and easy designs that wont break the bank...or more to the point ideal to replace the freebies often found at the bottom of the box of the new bit of kit you just bought.

Oh yeh!

Zanesh was kind enough to drive over here for the day to improve my aging copland cdp which I was thinking of changing as it was sounding a bit lack lustre/outclassed with its new playmates of quad esl988's and qc24 II40's.

Before disecting the copland he changed my cables for some of his. First to go were the silver plate copper ecosse batton's (£80-100) replaced by I guess the same .5 twisted 4n silvers as Lordsumit has? Placed between the pre and mono's the difference was shocking! Already the copland was back in favour, the cable had been putting it in a worse light than it deserved.

Next up was was another twisted pair in an illuminous green jacket, again an improvement was clearly heard although nothing like the difference between the last two.

Zanesh then introduced yet another cable 'the DNA' and I knew imediately this was the cable for me!

We also pitched my £££'s Ecose monocrystal silver legend agains zanesh's dna and although IMO there wasn't much between the dna and the legend, the latter is 4 - 5 times the cost and as such I honestly wouldnt be buying any cable now other than the dna! *Richard make sure your next cable is a dna you wont regret it!

I won't talk about the mods to the copland here as that would be off topic! but needless to say its performance has been truly enhanced.

Its also worth saying zanesh is a genuine and helpful guy who obviously loves this hobby and a real asset to this forum. :)

Here's a pic....these are fitted with the wbt like locking collar plugs.

Not overly sexy but your supposed to listen to them, not droole over them.
