To me the kids atttitude makes a very refreshing change in an age when you're considered a freak if you haven't lost a your virginity by 15 years old.

Besides, Dear God, the stuff some people shove in the noses, eye browse whatever....

Tell me I'm not going mad?

Nope sorry, you're going mad.

It's some vile shite that's crept over from the hypocritical American bible belt toss-pots. If you don't want to have sex before marriage then fine, but I don't see why you have to wear a ring to prove it. It's a whole bloody movement in the states, force fed to US teenagers to make them think that they're bad people if they have sex before marriage. The whole thing makes me want to puke.

So there. :p

Oh, by the way, it's OK to bear a weapon before you're married though, it's a good thing to have a gun, I hope to see that coming over the pond soon too.

I agree to an extent, there seems to be something of an extremist (backlash) view coming form somewhere....extreme is never good.

In essence though , she is on the right lines, a I say it make a refreshing change from the modern ideaology of "must have sex by 17".

If she wants to wear a ring, I don't see a problem with that.....though the USA/extremist link is a concern.

No, mate ....I'm far from mad....... ;)

There's nothing modern about that for goodness sake, people have always wanted to have sex in their teens, we're biologically driven to it, you're in denial if you think otherwise. What we need is for teenagers to be taught sexual awareness and responsibility, not just to tell them 'God says NO'.

Its quite funny the ring thing, apparently you can be given your virginity back by a preacher before adorning the ring (assuming you have been laying it out like a blanket up to your conversion)

I agree with the school on this one. If she don't want to shag thats fine. I don't want it in the arse but I am not going to wear a ring to tell everyone.

I think there IS;

Even going back to when I was a teenager in the late 70s/early 80s I was quite shocked to realise one one of my school colleagues (15 YO ) was pregnant.

That would have been pretty unusual (to say the least) in my parents day.

I personally believe the trend is getting worse.

people have always wanted to have sex in their teens,

You might want it!!

we're biologically driven to it,

Really?!???!!

There I do agree with you.

not just to tell them 'God says NO'.

...Agreed, thats not such a good idea at all.

You are not being asked to!

Its the girl who wants to wear it.

I think the "sex is a sin" slogan/ american bibal bashing whatever it is........is highly unfortunate.........a real turn off.

It could perhaps be argued that such a ring would make her MORE of a target for rapists and the like?

As far as I am concerned the school is entirely within it's rights. If it says no rings or jewellry, that is the dresscode.

The ring itself is not a religious symbol, it's a moral gesture. She's not wearing it to denote faith, she's wearing it to demonstrate a belief. If one pupil is allowed not to conform to school behaviour codes, others have an equal right to do the same. I'd have told her the same. The Kara bangle is different, it is a symbol of faith, much like the Jewish skullcap.

What we need is for teenagers to be taught sexual awareness and responsibility, not just to tell them 'God says NO'.

What needs to happen is that parents need to stop their kids going out getting pissed and taking drugs, and make them understand they have some responsibility for their actions. Sex education is fantastic in schools generally, but when they've drunk 4 cans of cider, a bottle of cheap Martini, or taken Ecstacy, their inhibitions go out the window. They forget what they know, and condoms aren't used. Hence the 16 year old single mum cycle starts again. It's not education that's the issue it's people who want all the rights and none of the responsibilities.

I think this is a case of religion claiming morality. Choosing to remain a virgin until marriage isn't a display of faith, its a basic human choice.
I saw the father being interviewed on TV and he bleated on about comparisons to other faiths.
Its a noble choice and a bullshit ring. The school was totally correct.

The school is absolutely correct. The ring is not a Christian symbol any more than a T Shirt stating "You'll all burn in Hell" is.

Sounds to me like another "We poor Christian's are being hard done by" stunts that the more infectious God botherers seem to be pulling these days.

She's a troublemaker, as was the Muslim girl who did a similar stunt a while back. Do you, for one minute, think she is paying her own legal costs? She'll be funded by some crank group of nutters.

don't know bob

theres clearly more to this than i thought at first.

no, she won't be paying her own legal cost as a 16 yerae old.

"She's a troublemaker".........its just remotely posible her hearts in the right place.

She's a troublemaker. Who cares if she keeps her cherry? Why broadcast it with a ring? Why challenge the school's uniform policy?

Possibly she does?

Why broadcast it with a ring?

To let the local lads know she ain't interested tonght........maybe got better things to do...

Why challenge the school's uniform policy?
