The rise of the Rohmann Empire

I telephoned Ortofon in Denmark and was put through to the MD. Initially he said that I should contact the UK distributors for a replacement. However, after some cajoling (the distributors had quoted me £800 for a replacement or £300 for a VDH retip) he said that I should send him an email with some company details and, under these exceptional circumstances, I could return the Rohmann to Ortofon and he would replace it "at a very low price".

    I'll do that then.

My TWO cartridge accidents (the other was an Ortofon 520) happened when I was sober!

I'm actually more dangerous with decks when I'm sober because I can be too gentle; ask Henryt about the time we all had a bender in the Wellhouse (8 hours!) and then he let me use the Orbe! I was totally f***wrecked but didn't drop a record or miscue (or scratch) one record. If I was sober I'd have probably been a bit more jittery!

    Crazy world eh?

    New Rohmann Arrived Today

My new Rohmann arrived this morning, direct from Ortofon themselves. I fitted into my O.L. Silver tonearm and it's blissful business as usual.

Thanks for your support over this difficult time.

It will probably take some hours playing to get to its best. Does anyone know how long?

I was going to suggest an mc3000 or even 7500, but looks like you are sorted.

Also you could've tried Len Gregory, the Cartridge man for a re-tip.

Does a re tip mean the cartridge will be as new? ie is the person doing it going to use the same piece of diamond profile, etc?

I liked the Rohmann and, after some prompting, Ortofon made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The exchanged cartridge is brand new.

I think that the person doing a retip would generally try to emulate the original profile. I've heard many good things about Len Gregory and I'm sure our paths will cross in the future.

Sounded pretty good from new to me. After a few days heavy use there was no looking back.

    Glad to hear you're sorted.
