    Yet another computer related post/problem!

First there was me and my queries, then I was asking about laptops for my g/f sister. and now to my g/f herself!

The sound from her computer isn't working. Was there one MOment and gone the next. Tried rebooting with no success. Tried System restore to an earlier point. No joy.

The sound control options in the system tray are no longer displayed and trying to find the sound card through the control panel shows nothing. The only place where the soundcard is even mentioned is start/prog's/accessories/system tool/system info. Then under the components menu clicking on "sound device" names her card, but other than that it's Manufacturer = Unknown. Status = Unknown.

The computer hasn't been MOved or knocked in a way which would perhaps cause the card to come loose, and I don't really get it.

    Any help appreciated as always!

    MO :D

un-install the card, then re-install on reboot
    or re-install the drivers

could also be a knackered card

The card seems to have uninstalled itself. Not sure how to go about reinstalling it though

If the card came with a CDROM, then use that to reinstall the drivers.

Otherwise look at what CDROMs you were supplied. Read the manuals

Alternatively go to the website of the card manufacturer. Drivers are usually available for download.

    As for reinstalling:

    1. Shutdown.
    2. Remove card.
    3. Start up.
    4. Shutdown.
    5. Insert card.
    6. Start up.
    7. Insert driver CDROM when asked.

It's usually something like the above. Windows should detect the presence of the new hardware and request drivers for it.
