Errr the DP6 isn't a uni pivot :p It uses a non magnetic type metal bearing for the horizontal plane and two saphires for the vertical. Walrus also advised me against using the UP4 on the Avid.

No they don't stock them unfortunately, I used a hyperspace which is ok cuz I'm know the NAS sound well and there was night and day difference between the arms. The only spanner in the works could be a major mis-match between the avid and the morch but I can't really see why that would happen. Never know though so touch wood & all that.

Back-tracking through the thread, I've had my SME IV for nearly 10 years now: it's lived on a Garrard 401 and my Technics SP10Mk.II. Loved it on the Garrard, but really comes into it's own on the Technics.
Had an EAR834P for six or so years: very good sound, for the money. Heartily recommended, if you are looking for a warm-ish sound.
Hopefully this info. is of use to someone, somewhere...

As a long time SP 10 ownwer I have been looking at 401, I would appreciate a copy of you impressions of both.

(I would not be getting rid of the SP 10, I would keep both)

    is les from

    walrus still the morch importer....?
i've never really got on with a morch arm as they seem very cartridge fussy .
some coils send them into fits of mushiness.
    nice for certain carts though.
not sure if its more musical than a sme though ?
it could deffo be better matched to certain carts than an s.m.e. :D
what cart are you using ?

Yes, he/they are still the importer. The mid and top sounded better to me. SME's bass is better but I'm not really lacking bass elsewhere so it doesn't really matter.
Using a Dynavector 17DII atm. Not sure how long I'll stick with it, I like it but think I could do better, its not the most enguaging cart I've heard possibly due to the high compliance or something. I'll see how it reacts to the morch when I get it all sorted.
And come on, if a tonearm would ever get a girl into bed, it ain't gonna be the SME! Thats the REAL reason I bought the morch :D

    morch

did do a cart i think which was built by lyra if i recall correctly.
my fave on the morch was a transfiguration by quite away , sounded great.
i love your current cart, it should sound very fast and engaging nearly like a decca in speed and mid clarity. i think dynavectors sound best on non sprung set ups though.
koetsu gear also sounds good on a morch.
if you got a dyna cart you must try the baby phono pre. great value p-stage.

Built my own phono stage. With gas rectifiers and depletion mosfets. Its the business, best stage I've heard anywhere ever.

It's a moot point now as you've bought an arm but the general consensus amongst all the reviewers etc that had listened to both the SME IV and V was that the IV had stronger bass than the V . This was either seen as more or less neutral depending on the reviewers particular preference. Other than that they were essentially considered identical in presentation (ie more neutral than a very neutral thing) and resolution etc.

I have a IV on my Xerxes and I must say it makes a very good match for that deck.
