And I have little doubt that most Americans would say the same about their Christian fundamentalists, except that they'd be more aware of their existence.

Pathetic isn't it ?. People are happy to walk around in a consensus trance as long as Eastenders keeps coming on the TV.

I think it was a poor question. I would not instantly choose evolution as the origin of life. I really don't know what created life right back at the beginning of the universe (or some time after) as I don't know what caused the creation of the universe. I mean, what did create the first life form? But if they just said the development of current life then yeah, I am perfectly happy to accept that life has evolved from more and more simplistic forms to its current state. I certainly don't believe some magic thing put a human being down on the planet one day.

    or

    b) god is a twat and is f*cking with us. maybe it's bored?

Yup. Despite the temper tantrum, I scored it 1-0 to the Beeb.

Apparently, the Scientologists are absolutely furious. Tee hee!

its a pity.....i've known many people (seemingly ) gain a lot from their faith ........eg (topically) the Mccanns in their current wholey unpleasant situation.

What I found particularly disturbing was the way they used the holocaust and blaming psychology for all evils.

Particularly since Scientology's 'E-Meter' is merely a Galvanic Skin Resistance meter as used and popularized by Carl G Jung.

This use of the GSR, which has certainly been refined over the years by the Scientology people, may have some practical benefits but, unfortunately, it's a 'baby/bathwater' thing.

But why the large 'celeb' following? I cant see what it offers these people. Maybe they have different needs from religion, as they already have a very good life (I suspect).

Is this an American only phenomenon???

    good point,

I guess religion isn't too far detached from the media (it is all basically stories made up or otherwise)

I personally don't believe any of it and choose not to partake in religion or most press related stuff. I don't go out of my way to read papers or watch the news, I have no TV :)

do any of you believe reviews in hifi mags?,
I don't, they will bend the truth to sell mags as will journalists to sell papers and so will preachers trying to sell religion.

I think in each case you need to believe your ears and eyes and come to a rational decision based on the known facts.

because they (celebs) are bored out of their minds and don't have any thing else to think about?

ie they hardly have to think too much about where their next meal is coming from/how they are going to pay the car tax/etc

    don't know, just a guess.....:)
