Techice Question for Tact Amps

Could you Bi Amp with 1 X Tact SDAI - 2175 and 1 X TACT SDA - 2175?

Ken

Can't see why not. You can use the pre-out from the SDAi2175 to feed the SDA2175. Then it's your choice as to which feeds the tweeter and which the mid/bass.

I have a SDAi2175 & I can't say I've ever felt the need to bi-amp! Are you sure? The SDAi2175 is a very powerful amplifier, capable of driving virtually any loudspeaker. I can't imagine that the sonic benfits (if any) of adding a SDA2175 would be cost effective. But, if you want to, then it's your money:)

Definitely. I've tried it myself on ATC SCM12s, but decided in the end not to buy the power amp as I don't think it really added much benefit to an already excellent combination of amp and speaker.

Howver, it could be that the crossover on the ATC SCM12 limits any benefits from bi-amping and a different speaker might be a different story.

THanks guys.

Second question, does the SDAi 2175 have a Phono input?

No, most certainly not. Indeed, it has a bit of a problem with many phono stages, as the sensitivity on line inputs is low. If this is important to you, then carefullly check this out first.

Why don't you download a manual from the TacT site:

I was talking to Mr Lyngdorf himself at last years Manchester show and Im sure he mentioned a phono card. I dont know whats reality these days, off for a lie down.

That may have been for a TDA, perhaps?

I find it's best not to engage with reality too often; it usually ends up upsetting me :(

On the SDAi you can boost the sensitivity on any input by +6db. And vary the relative volume of each input by +/- 6db. Nick Kenyon's Hifi World technical review missed this feature.

Yes, but this is not enough to compensate. A typical phono stage will output 500mV or so. Even with high sensitivity selected it's still 1V (normally 2V). It's an issue with relatively low output line level devices at 1.8V or so , so you definitely need to pick the right phono stage. An EAR, with volume control, would be ideal, for example.

From Lyngdorf, there will be an outboard A/D with digital domain RIAA. It is said to be pretty special.
