Its a good film in itself, but it is pointless. I thought I was having deja-vou when I was watching it and it took me some time to realise thats because it is a completely rip-off of Infernal Affairs! Some parts so so exactly the same it is crazy, and it is not half as good overall. And no it doesn't have the audiophile parts in it, but he does have a McIntosh system.

I enjoyed it mostly, although I thought the ending left you feeling a bit, well, flat, or something. To be honest I find most recent US cop films are pretty much of a muchness (even when they're directed by Scorcese), very slick but somehow not very gripping/interesting.

Have you seen Infernal Affairs? If not, watch it, its really good. Plus, one of the main characters is an audiophile. (a cable charmer whats more!)

I thought it was openly known as an adaptation of Infernal Affairs?

http://imdb.com/title/tt0338564/

The scene where they're listening to the music in the hifi shop and talk sounds amazing in 5.1: music from the front speakers, their dialogue in the centre speaker; total separation :)

I didn't know before watching it though. When I realised I jus thought 'whats the point'? Infernal Affairs is only a few years old and better made. Seems silly.

But it's intended as a remake.

Thanks for that, just watched it.

Very good, obviously the same tale, in a much less hollywood style that I preferred, much better ending as well. It's a much less spoon fed version, you get to develop your own feelings about the characters. As with so many films, the original is best.

Part II is possibly even better than the first film. Haven't watched the 3rd one yet.

Watched this for the second time last night. Somehow it is quite a way from cool status. Some of the chat-up dialogue is not convincing, e.g., in restaurant scenes with the female shrink. I felt some of the cuts were not timed quite right - giving slight discontinuity or jerkiness. I'm not sure any of it is really Oscar material.

re departed

saw this lased week on vidio very poor typicaly american now you wont to see a good film watch dead mans shoes class and set in shrewsbury

I enjoyed the Departed, but as you say, it is a rip off of Infernal Affairs, and IA is a better film. I've watched all three of the IA films. Number 2 is also pretty good, but unfortunately number 3 loses the plot somewhat and really doesn't stand up as well.

Agreed, amazing films.

THe departed was horrific and just seemed like a film for every actor/actress to out act the other. infernal affairs kept me literally on the edge of my seat whereas 'the departed' was just crap. Hollywood screwing up yet again with remaking a classic.
