Just watched it. Very funny film, very well done. These annimations continue to surprise me. I started with Shrek and Shrek 2 a few months ago. Can anyone recommend any more quality annimations that appeal to adults?

The Incredibles is a tight movie with a lot of genuiniely funny moments, albeit dead corny.

    Concur?

The Incredibles is a top movie, IMO much better than Shrek, which personally I thought was completely overrated.
Other good ones include Ice Age.

The Incredibles was a favourite - really liked it.

Finding Nemo was good fun, I liked Ice Age, Monster Inc aswell. Pixar are a great company and worth following IMO.

Thoroughly enjoyed The Incredibles - top film and great fun. The soundtrack is also superb, the big band compositions being fabulous. :)

Enjoyed Shrek but found the sequel tedious.

Thumbs up also to Monsters inc - Billy Crystal and John Goodman did their narration together (where most cgi film 'actors' record their voice parts separately) and the interaction shows. Brilliant :)

Watch the Incredibles rather than the Fantastic 4.

Yes - thought I might get a load of thumbs up. There's a great quote from it that could be a good forum signature :

" Its not easy being super all the time"

On the subject of annimations, perhaps a controversial one, but my absolute favourite ever annimation is "Beavis and Butthead Do America". If you have only seen the snippets on MTV, forget those, go buy or hire this very funny and solid movie. http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=...rchstring=beavis+butthead+america&page=search
    Concur this time?

p.s. From the MTV years , you can get the Beavis and Butthead shorts strung together mainly without the music videos. I own about a dozen of these on VHS and they are worth getting. There are priceless gems contained within though overall not as solid as the movie.

Very different in style, you should try some Japanese anime such as Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Ninja Scroll and Princess Mononoke (to name only the most well known). These are aimed specifically at adult audiences, though are not the gore fests that other anime films made notorious, and represent some of the most intelligent, stylish and innovative animation of the last 15 years.

I only wish that studios like Pixar would, just once, try their hand at something more like these films. If they got the balance right it would be spectacular.

I do love The Incredibles by the way!

Disney said children will watch any animation so you have to sell it to the parents.

I own Ghost in the shell and have watched it once. well, tried to at least, I wanted to like it, and in parts did, but my attention kept drifting. Maybe worth giving it another go.

I've also got Blood, The last vampire. But haven't got round to watching it yet.

But these movies aren't anything like Incredibles though are they? The Incredibles was a slick action toon with corny comedy and sharp dialogue, all done in a very accessable way. Some of these manga type thingies are a bit of a love'em or hate 'em thing, no ?

The problem with most of the manga stuff is it takes itself too seriously most of the time so it looks pretentious and pompous. Plus the lazy character animation spoils a lot of it.

Aeon Flux is far superior. However, I have doubts about the movie.

I disagree, it's just a very different style to that of Pixar et al, where absolute attention to exact detail isn't top priority. I think you may notice that films like Shrek, The Incredibles, Toy Story, Ice Age and so on all look very much the same, unlike the diversity of styles found in anime. The Animatrix is a good example, enabling you to see the variety of anime, back-to-back as it were.

Oh NP, I mean, I certainly will try them. In fact I have a friend deeply into this sort of thing and I'll be watching some soon. Thanks. By way of contrast , do you like Beavis and Butthead?

I used to when I was a bit younger, it is quite a good satire of the MTV generation (who, ironically, were the show's main viewers and most likely didn't get it), but it is kind of repetitive and one-dimensional in some respects. The creator of B&B went on to do King of the Hill, which has a bit more subtlety and restraint to it, and is all the better for it.

I take your point but its the following 'cliche' animation in manga that annoys me -

    1. All girl characters under 16 look the same facially (same could be said for the males too).
    2. Any character whether male or female can suddenly if they fall in love or are embarrased can suddenly take on a dopey round eyed panda appearance for some reason.
    3. If a character moves fast or jumps in the air they are stationary for 4 seconds whilst the background goes all streaky lines as though going to light speed.
    4. Anger is shown by teeth gritting through round open lips and eyes squinted as though constipated.
    5. Any group of bad guys or army always appear first as though they are coming over the top of a hill.

    and so on..... :) ;)

I agree with all your points Puma. I've seen too many naff, lazy anime movies, simply trading on the Manga name which incorporate the cliched characters and animation (Pokemon took this to the limits...). They're crap! But the better, intelligent anime films do rise above the average and have clear styles of their own.
