Sony KV28HX15U Widescreen TV for £229.99 in John Lewis with a 5yr warranty.

Agree that Philips dropped the ball big time with their reliability problems on the DVDr880 and 890. The later generation stuff was and continues to be fine. I have a Philips DVDR520H (80Gb HDD) which works well once you learn your way around the menus.

Pioneer gets my vote for the most intuitive DVDRs. The latest generation recorders have very good help menus and step-by-step guides.

    Regards

I went for a CRT - a Bush 28" widescreen from Tesco for £159. It's an excellent set and stunning value.

    Cheers

I went through 10 TV's over a year before I bought a Toshiba 32ZP48, excellent TV with no serious geometry or purity issues.

When I can find a plasma or LCD which gives the same great picture for watching normal programmes as well as DVDs, I will buy it.

Hex Spurt - that Sony looks good, my kind of budget + 5 year warranty, cant be bad, sold out on the JL website though- i'm gonna ring the local store direct to see if they have any in, failing that the likes of Currys have it at a similar price but no extended g/tee......
