I'm a football fan, season ticket holder to a premiership team, go to a lot of away matches too. Most football fans are sporting, pleasant, and friendly. Quite often talk to away fans. Most trouble is caused by a few dickheads who aren't even there for the football but for the battle. All the trouble in Portugal was hundreds of miles away from the matches. Brit's abroad are an abomination, lager fuelled, sunburnt thugs, who behave in a way they'd never dare in there 'own country'
It is an abomination for anybody to be attacked, the Scum newspaper wrecks peoples lives for the sake of a profit, ask any Liverpudlian. Don't dignify it by buying it and reading it.

The Scum newspaper should be ashamed of itself, or rather the neanderthal readership should be. Do you know it has a reading age of about 8, so it's rather obvious who it's target readers are

AFAICT The Sun is intended as a bit of fun. Unfortunately its readership don't get the joke.

There's no point in whinging about the refereeing decision which disallowed that goal. Perfectly fair result in the end: England deserved to lose the match.

I like your elemental naughtiness, Julian. At least the first one is a lubricant, or a component thereof, so we can be thankful for small mercies. But I'm sure that, when Dimitri Mendeleev devised his Periodic Table, he didn't quite have that use in mind for it!

By The Sun I presume you are talking about the Paper as printed south of the border. The Scottish version of the Sun took a whole different approach to Englands Euro 2004 campaign.
Even my local Woolworths store in St Andrews was selling Anti-English Euro 2004 merchandise until somebody complained and it was all withdrawn from sale. Mind you i suppose this is just 'Freindly Racism' isn't it, i mean there's no harm in it.
Especially when it comes from those nice well behaved Scottish football fans.

As for the Swiss referee, ( and that Danish B***ard who red carded Becks for nothing ) F**k him, he's a football referee, it goes with the territory. Do you really think that all them miilions of people who have sung from the terraces all over the world "The Referee's a Wa**er" for so many years did it for no reason, No, they knew something...

It's not my fault that the whole world is a large goldfish bowl, created specifically for me and my fellow Englishmen to wander round, poking and peering at it whenever we want. We didn't ask to be the best in the world God just made us that way.

Neilsen I believe was his name but the red card was fully justified IMO. Becks was an idiot to have kicked out at Simeone (England vs. Argentina, France '98 for those who don't remember).

The rules are quite clear, a kick or a punch off the ball (and this was right infront of the ref) is an instant red card, no ifs or buts.

Don't get me wrong, I was gutted by that result but Becks should have known better. On the other hand, the reaction of the English media that time was just as bad as it's always been.

Strangely enough the Journalists at the Sun that produce all that crap are well educated middle class on the whole. It sometimes makes me wonder if the whole paper is nothing more than a huge piss take of the ignorant working class of this country, (by which I don't mean that the working class are ignorant), that read and believe it all.

At the end of the day, it's reprehensible the kind of xenophobia and racial hatred that that grouping of pulped up wood fibres prints most of the time.

Its utterly beyond reason ( if you believe the girl was attacked, how do you know they aren't telling you a pack of lies?) this is what they will do , incite violence in a bunch of thugs and neanderthals, then say how thuggish our fans are abroad, say they attacked someone, and then fail to take the blame themselves, or even peddle a lie it happened to keep you interested in the story.
if she were, what the F*** does she have to do with a ref making a decision.
Football is and always has been a game where it doesn't matter how you perform, a lucky goal can win it for you. witness man utd.
I think the gutter press should be banned. In fact make that the whole press, nothing but a pack of lies, hate, envy spreading, fear inducing, keep the lid on what' s really happening, the establishment is all jovial and friendly, course its true blair and brown bicker, as does every board room, troulbe is, they want you to think all is dandy.
    time for the revolution.
tbh ,I don't particularly like some english myself, they are thuggish monky mentality, crude and rude, but I don't want to be tarnished with the same brush. Even in ones own neighbourhood there is a huge spectrum of types, nice, average, not so nice, multiply this by cities and across the country, you cannot say we are all like that. the english gentleman and sense of honour decency and fair play has nigh on extinguished. there aren't many left.
I think its times countries ended, there are really only people

you have to remember that the media is not a public service it is a business. to be more specific it is an entertainment business which survives by viewer / circulation numbers. this inevitably leads to the press manipulating the news to engender more exciting news. this is one of the main reasons i refuse to play, that and the fact that everything is just so depressing these days but it seems to be what people want to see. i've now also stopped watching 'hard hitting crime shows' such as law and order as it just enforces the idea that people are awful. caught myself watching something on sky the other week about violent crime and could actually feel my stomach start to knot with tension so i turned it off.
    cheers
