Has anyone got a built KEL84 that is for sale? Ideally it would be somewhere in the south of England, but other locations considered.

I have also posted on the World Designs forum, but I thought there might be some owners here that don't visit the WD forum.

Any details by pm please.

Thanks.

Linearman,

just to make you aware of the new Glasshouse EL84 amp from hificollective.

Ive heard the prototype, and it's very good.

Power rating is double that of the KEL84, making it something that can drive a bigger array of speakers.

Style-wise the valves are hidden away with a silver front - in the style of Copland for example.

Nick would probably build one for you for a few hundred if you don't have the DIY skills.

Cheers
Chris

No details on the website yet, but here it is anyway.

Thanks, Chris ~ interesting.

I'm really after a s/h amp at the moment, as this is for my second system and I'd like to try out the KEL84. Furthermore I really need something quickly, preferably this week!

I've had an 84 based amp in the past ~ I liked the mids, but I think the amp in question was let down overall by the transformers and other aspects of the design. The WAD is one of the better 84s, or so I'm given to understand.

yes - it is good. I like it in all aspects other than output power.

Same feelings about the Leak stereo 20.. with the + that it's vintage looks are way cool and the -ve that a resistor is likely to pop at any minute and that you need a seperate passive pre.

Thanks ~ I'd seen the KEL84, but it's a little further away than ideal and I suspect may go for more than I'm willing to pay (I've exchanged messages with the seller).

The 5881 is certainly interesting and very close by. Trouble is the single input, which means using an external switching device (although, at a push, I could use my DD82 cleverly to provide a dual digital in, analogue out unit). Worth considering though ~ thanks.
