    Both literally and metaphorically!

I came across this on E-Bay:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2685398432&category=290

Now, when an IWC made in a limited edition in platinum has a reserve price of £100, I get suspicious. In addition, the watch does look slightly different to the one on IWC's website

    http://www.iwc.ch

I dropped a line to one bidder, and he obviously enquired, hence the insertion of the disclaimer at the bottom - but that line wasn't there in the beginning!!

He's also using "keyword spamming" by putting "(not Tag, Omega, Rolex)" in the title (to catch people searching for other brands of watch). That's fairly frowned upon by eBay

It turns out that IWC is now making it in steel in unlimited numbers, but the asking price is still around CHF12,000 (about £5400). I dropped a note to IWC (we intellectual property owners must stick together!).

If that's the case than why are there so many in Linn/Naim searches? Ebay = toothless poodle when it SHOULD be a rabid Rottweiler about these things....

eBay has just put up their charges again.
And eBay is not safe as they claim to be.
It has too many con men :(
Anyone with a bogus email addy can join.

    eBid.co.uk is a safer alternative.

eBid is a free auction site that is growing very fast (over 90 new members every day).
No automated responses as with eBay. Members are verified so it is really secure, unlike eBay.

And it is British. Mark and Gazza who run the site are very helpful if you have any queries.
It also has an enthusiastic and friendly forum. ebid.co.uk deserves our support.

    ebid

Just had a quick look at ebid. Sounds as if they could do well if they are able to sort the wheat from the chaff. However, they do need to make the catagories a bit more specific. Searching for hifi brings up a fairly diverse range of goods.

eBid looks like a promising start. The look isn't based on eBay at all.....not! :D

For people like me who live outside the UK it won't be an option though. That's one of the attractions of eBay (and one of it's potential downsides aswell).

FWIW I've never had any trouble with eBay buying or selling and I still think it's a great place. If you've got a little bit of common sense it's very easy to tell the con artists from the genuine people so that's not a problem for me allthough I do think they need to do a bit more to tighten up security.

I've never had any trouble with ebay either. I am more of seller than buyer though. I've only bought 1)Windows 95 CD for £5 with licence, 1 Yamaha Turntable, and somthing else in which I forget. I have sold about 40 items now.
