Are you in the habit of measuring penises?

Yes indeed and at 6 feet you just won!

I sometimes wonder just what proportion of people who buy sooper dooper hi-fis actually like music and just buy them to pose. Look at the wankfest that is the Naim forum for proof.

The Naim forum is wonderful fun. An innocent enquiry about an amplifier is instantly exploited, viz:

"...Well, I don't know about your NAP 3000.275, but mine sings like a lark on the end of my NAC 5000052 and CDS98-and-three-quarters. Perhaps it isn't run-in yet."

Thus demonstrating that you not only have a system about which the ordinary Naim Forum plankton can only dream, but at the same time, a philanthropic desire to help those less fortunate than yourself.

I was recently banned from the Naim forum for poking fun at a naim-ee who claimed the orientation of mains plug fuses (which way up) was important with Naim kit.

    Bunch of in-bred muppets!

personally i had a big music collection before i had a good stereo, and since, the collection has probably grown even faster. i am choosy about recording quality, but if anything i have explored far more music and extended the genre that interest me since benefiting from the insight a decent rig provides. and i don't listen to audiophool approved musak crap.

Possibly the biggest danger of hifi demonstrations in the 'good old days' was the risk of being exposed to the 'music' of Dave Grusin and suchlike.

Your avarage naim owner is not represented on the naim audio website I'm afraid. I reckon most of them are sane, normal types who like the sound naim offers (and the backlit logo, which even I admit looks very cool indeed). All of us that frequent these boards have to accept that to a large extent we are abnormal, insomuch as normal = midi hifi + one box home cinema.

It is true that lots of people buy hifi just because they can, when I was selling it as a youngster I remember a guy came in for the "most expensive hifi you sell" which, I might add, he did buy.. untested.

The world is full of cocks such as these and, of course, we committed to the hifi cause get very peeved when we hear of people with more money than music buying 20k systems only to play Sarah Brightman or some other stuff of which we don't approve.

Ultimately hifi can well be about willy waving, what I like about this forum and one other I frequent is the fact that most people are polite, approchable and not too loaded!!

Check out the audiophile club of Athens for a very different take on forums.
