Yep my grandparents had one, my grandma asked my mum if I wanted it but she said I have already got one. It went in the skip. I know they are not brilliant decks but they were highly regarded at the time and are half decent quality I am sure I could have made use of it.

I think they were one of the best cheaper decks in the late 70's.

First real hi-fi was in 1979 and consisted of

    National Panasonic/Technics SL19 Turntable
Trio KA3700 amplifier (still being used by my eldest son)
Wharfdale speakers (can't remember which model but small bookshelf)

Didn't consider wires back then so may well have been bell wire.

    Happy listening even then,

    1991 :-

    Sony CDP990 CD player
    Denon PMA-350 amp
    Sony APM-141ES speakers
Mission Cyrus solid core speaker cables
    Audioquest Ruby interconnects

Arguably the speakers probably might not pass for "proper" hi-fi, they were a bit boom'n'tizz but great fun until they were replaced with some more grown up Tannoy 607's.

Anybody rememeber a fad Sony's had with their so called APM flat cone speaker drivers? Found a picture of the APM-141ES's I owned, erm but these aren't the exact same ones... I only had 2 APM drivers and a metal dome tweeter in mine, the ones pictured here seem to have an additional metal dome mid unit too.

My IB2 speakers have flat cones made from some kind of carbon sandwhich. My old REL also had a flat cone, but that looked more like plastic.

1995: Sony CDP-M12 CDP, JVC amp, Sony Pro Walkman, Sony normal AM/FM walkman (used for FM - he he!), Casio pocket TV, Sony SS-something speakers...

Not "real" hifi per se, but the best stereo in the hall *I* was in. When my mates came in while I was watching Casualty one Saturday evening, they nearly died laughing when they saw this 2.1 inch telly providing the feed to the system :)

The Sony CD/speakers were leftovers from my 1991 Sony midi system. In true hifi terms, the system sucked, but it gave a tonne of loud tunes during my final year at Uni. Unbelievably enough, that £50 stopgap JVC amp stayed in the system until late 1997. The rest of the kit went long before that (the Pro Walkman died, unfortunately)...

still on my first "proper" system bought in 1999

Marantz DR6050 CDP/R (actually this came later in about 2002 replacing a Technics CDP)
    Marantz PM7000 Int. amp.
KEF Q50s speaks (now with Q55.2 tweeters due to a little accident!)

Vinyl duties have been handled by my "work" setup: 2x Technics SL-1200s fed via a Vestax PMC-46 mk2 preamp mixer, Ortofon Nightclub carts.

On the horizon... amp upgrade (probably looking at a 2/h Primare A30.1) and a dedicated hifi turntable/phono stage

I don't remember the models but I think I had a Rotel amp, a Sony belt drive turntable with Goldring cart (soon replaced with an Ortofon due a little accident with my dressing gown sleeve) an AKI Tape deck as well as an AKI Reel to Reel, and KHF speakers. They were all hand me downs from my dad, except the tape deck which was from his friend and my Dad fixed it.

This was my first ever Hi-Fi, never mind proper one! I It sounded pretty good too! I think, right after wiring it up, we tested it with Four Seasons.
