The people living across the road from me have an 04 plate corsa. The front tyres are totally bald and the car could be more than a year away from its first MOT.

More than a week ago I told them that the tyres were bald and needed replacing and they've not done anything about it.

    What would you do now?

    Are you friendly with them?

    Mention it passively again.

Maybe slash a tyre so they'll be forced to replace :)

It would become my business when they have an accident because of it, and I knew about the tyres and did nothing about it.

I was tempted to go for the "mind your own business" response, but figured the reason you might be asking was to do with what you've said.

And a response of "that's there problem" doesn't stand. Accidents don't always just effect those in the unfit car.

Maybe you are just a nosey git though :)

No it doesn't. You have done something about it by telling them, they might not even have noticed if you'd not mentioned it. You've done your bit, you can't walk about with everybodys guilt on your shoulders, unless of course Jesus is your middle name....

But you have done something about it! You pointed out the bald tyres to them; if they choose to ignore your advice that's their decision. Where do you draw the line? Tell someone to stop smoking because it'll damage their health and that of their family?

There's no law against smoking. There are laws (and 6 points and up to £5000 fine) against driving around with bald tyres.

Right; and you've pointed out the bald tyres. If the driver gets caught and fined, it'll teach him to follow your advice in future. You can't live other peoples' lives for them.

I am with Sid here, you have told them about it, so if they do have an accident you can't blame yourself. If you tell the police they won't do anything about it anyway, they have much bigger things to worry about.

My dads never ever had to replace a bald trye, they always seem to develop a puncture before that happens because of the stupid amount of pot holes everywhere.

Maybe if you did have a word with them again print stuff of the net to show them, so they know you're not just being arsey.

    Well strictly speaking:

    a) They are commiting a crime if they drive the vehicle with those tyres.

    b) It's your civic duty to report any crime you see being committed.

Make of that what you will.

    lol

I'm sure printing stuff off the net to show them could be seen as being arsey in itself!

If the babylon popped round (which I doubt) on your tip off your neighbours will know it was you as you already mentioned it. Bear this in mind if you are considering "grassing them up" :) .

I'm certainly not going to do anything which causes problems, neighbours from hell style. However, it's concerning me with the heavy rain we've had over the past few days...

Well, you told them (they probably knew already), they didn't take notice. What more can you do? Report it to the police? Put nails under the car so that when it starts the tires will go off? It seems a civic matter, so why not go to the police?

I fully understand you concern, but what more can you do? If you insist, the 'mind your own business' argument is probable; or even worse, since they are 'from hell' kind of people.

Get a Full sheet of A4 Paper

    Open up Ms Word

Type This so it fits the whole page but make the last Sentance emboldend and in capitals.

" Bald Car tyres i support them and can drive with them any time i want. I AM ABOVE THE LAW

Stick this on the back of his car window or the front so it faces the direction of the street. When people walk past that they will see it and will think oh yeah tough guy. This will get plenty of people reporting him and the police can act on mass complaints. When he sees that on his car he will get the message.

    Problem solved
