What's your favourite album to chill out to?

Youch! Seems pretty steep, but like you say, they do seem pretty rare.

I'm not sure what it is, but although I think all their albums are a bit special, they don't seem to have matched Debut. It's just got that something extra.

The only one I've not got is the "Best Kept Secrets" best of. But I've noticed a version with a DVD, so might pick it up too.

Yeah Mo a tad expesive but worth it IMO.
If you can source the dvd version of Best Kept Secrets buy it some good videos on the disc . B/line is well freaky.
As you say Debut is an exeptional album but I think Fear of Fours is just slightly better , I use this as a demo disc when trying kit , spesh Softly .Beautiful song , gives me Goosebumps everytime.
Sadly the band are now doing solo projects , about time they got back to gigging , I saw them once at T in the park and thought they were amazing.

lamb, faithless, air, various flavours of trendy chillout like zero 7 but chillout favorite has to be ott's blumenkraft - amazing trippy, dubby wonderfulness.

Just released is the new installment in the Kompakt label's series 'Pop Ambient', the new one being 2006, on both CD and LP. Started in 2001, all of these compilations are still available and contain some really beautiful, deep, moving ambient, and they all have some lovely floral artwork by Wolfgang Voigt - highly, highly recommended. 2003 is my fave :)

Quick edit: All of the CD versions contain a few extra tracks over the LPs, except 2001 which was CD only.

no mention of DJ Shadow yet? Meant to have a new album out at the end of this year too, dunno whats happened to that

What surprises me a little about this thread is the electronical nature of the music. Don't get me wrong. I love electronica, but some real nice country rock is hard to beat. I recommend Gene Clark's "No Other" - pretty hard to beat with your feet up and a nice glass of red for soothing the nerves.

How 'bout these. All regular latenighters in my house

Bark Psychosis - Hex (never seen a copy on vinyl though)
The For Carnation - s/t (ex Slint, very sombre and downtempo)
Califone - Quicksand-Cradlesnakes
The Books - Lost and Safe

I tend to record mixes to CD. Plenty of Carl Craig (blimey he is a talented bloke!), Morgan Geist, Larry Heard, Larry Levan, Juan Atkins, Basic Channel, etc...

Albumwise:
Heliocentric Worlds 1 and/or 2 - Sun Ra
Solar Myth Approach 1 and/or 2 - Sun Ra
Kawaida - Herbie Hancock and Don Cherry
Musique Concrete - Calibre
Various Naked Music compilations (Bare Essentials series, Carte Blanche, etc.)
Jewels of Thought - Pharaoh Sanders
the Driving Memoirs - Morgan Geist
The Workout - mixed by Carl Craig
Yoshiesque - Deep Dish

These of some of my faves which have stood the test of time for me anyway.

Edited to add:
A few of the Cafe Del Mar series are really well worth buying. The "best of" one is pretty good too, plus the Gilles Peterson "Wolrdwide" series are all good.

Another vote for Basic Channel, and also most of the stuff on Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction is pretty good too.

Ah good, I'm not the only one. I have them all :) Have you got the rhythm and sound stuff too?
Nice one. Unfortunately I've only got four BC discs and no "Rhythm and Sound" tracks. Worth investigating?

If you like reggae its absolute must have stuff. You can't go wrong with any of it but start with 'Rythm and Sound With the Artists'. To be fair though, every single thing they've done is worth having :D Chain Reaction, Planet M etc etc. Its all the same ideas, just applied to different styles

Some others:

Chicane - Behind the Sun
Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn
Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
Jean Michel Jaree - Equinoxe

I'm very partial to spinning dub plates from various genres, be it Roots, Reggae, Deep House, Techno (proper), so I shall investigate. Ta muchly :)
