growing up my mum had just 3 cds..I heard them many many times..

simon and garfunkel - greatest hits
the beatles - cant remember which
beach boys - 20 golden greats

Now Im older and I have more than 3 cd's!

The one that I liked the best was simon and garfunkel, so it would have to be Paul Simon.

Mike Scott (of The Waterboys) for his fantastic lyrics.

For example - just a few lines from a mad, marvellous song about the return of Jimi Hendrix:

He stopped every clock in New York state
And every heart that heard him
And time itself was beaten and confused
And fell lamb-like under the spell of his fabulous flashing fingers

Whole song here if you are interested: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/w/waterboys,-the/145278.html

And if California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill

    Loneliness and frustration
We both came down with an acute case
And when the lights came up at two
I caught a glimpse of you
And your face looked like something
Death brought with him in his suitcase
