Why do Chinese Hi-Fi Sites Load so Slowly?

I don't think China has very good internet connections internaly so it takes time to get to us.

I recall there is some kind of graphical traceroute program that will show you the transmission speed along the various hops to any URL. If you could just google a suitable set of words you might find what I mean. Maybe netsniffer or something...

in a few years time they'll be saying the same thing about us
What makes you think they don't think that in Shanghai and Shenzen already?

Indeed.
100Meg connections are the norm in certain parts.

Explains why China has been the greatest importer of scrap steel and copper for the last few years.
You think it's a booming economy now?
You ain't seen nothing yet

The big difference is the people in China are extremely poor. China is as rich as the UK now, the UK has 60 million people, China has 1 billion :).

And then the rural parts where no doubt they all have mobile phones & drive mercedes-benz....

Yes, mobile phones are everywhere (cheaper and more
flexible than landlines).
Some Chinese Mercs:

And then,on your return, you can visit the beautiful urban sprawls and council estates of Manchester,Leeds,Newcastle,London,Plymouth,Cardiff etc etc...
:)

Similar to China - the difference being that they're prepared to get off their arses and do something to help themselves and their families.

I visited mainland China several times - a heady mix of industrial revolution on a MASSIVE scale - a superb infrastructure in some areas, an absolute mess in others and a beautiful cultural community feel. Iive eaten some of the wierdest stuff (century egg anyone?) and seen some amazing temples (and factories!).

My only concern is the worker welfare in the low end of Chinese mfg.
