To the gentleman who insist on bashing Americans whats up?
We are suppossed to be allies. I came to ZG to talk to you gents on the other side of the pond and share some audio info.
However I get the feeling were not well liked here. Why the inuendos and snide remarks? There is evev one dude who braggs about being an American basher. Can't we all just have a pint and get along. Our parents might have been in the same foxhole in 1942 fighting TOGETHER.

I was going to let it pass but as you remind us on another post that you 'saved us from the Nazis' may I remind you that we had been fighting them on our own for nearly 4 years before you decided to join in.

Not quite so. You could equally argue the Russians won the war.

The Yanks were quite happy profiteering from our war. They joined in when they knew the Russians were going to win it.

Profiteering from what body bags? Gravesites. We lost thousands of lifes. My father is a 100% disabled WW2 Vet. A tad insensitive I'd say. You my friend have some serious issues.

Whoa there, this is one debate that could really get interesting. Bottom line we won. Who lost the most? Russia probably (considering allies). Who paid the most? who knows? anyone?

    Rollo, please don't take offense.

British arrogance is alive and kicking... unfortunately.

And, I like to think not a majority view.

Unfortunately everybody has a computer these days, the internet is a great leveller.

And, in fairness, the Americans were playing away from home. The Russians were fighting in their own territory and, I believe, only on one front.

It's a silly debate anyway. Who knows what might have happened without the Russians, the Americans, the British? Everyone was bloody relieved when it stopped and hoped that no one would ever have to go through such a terrible thing again. Sadly, not the case, although our generation in Britain have been pretty lucky.

it's a well known fact that the we have the USA to thank for the end of the war.

We couldn't have beaten the Germans without the intervention of Chuck Norris...

Thanks for your input. No offence taken to heart. Lets just hope we do not have to do it again, cause if that gent was in the fox hole next to me he would be alone without cover.

I think the yank bashing has more to do with a dislike for the Dubya administration than Americans themselves.
I think yer average 'sherman' is generous, kind and all round good'un. Unfortunately you have the uncanny habit of electing absolute bastards:D
People would do well to remember the thousands of US servicemens graves in northern France.
But lets not forget the US' govs reluctance to get involved in WW2 and the self interest that eventually swayed them, the fact we Brits paid with interest for every single bullet and tin of spam supplied to us and the fact that imediately post war the US stood by, with an envious eye on our Empire and watched our economy collapse-the Marshall plan only being enacted when it looked like europe would turn to the Soviets for post war help.
I must take this opportunity to restate an old infantry saying; "when you hear the Germans guns the Brits duck" "when you hear the Brit guns the Germans duck" and "when you hear the US guns they both duck":)

    Cookie,
I'll agree with you about our elected officials. They certainly are not doing the right thing. Its embarassing sometimes to be an American with the BS they put forth. I say power to the people and less much less Government.

So you are trying to suggest the 101 st airborne were what exactly?
The US lost over 407,000 troops in WW2, the UK 382,000, Russia 10,700.000, Germany 5,500,000 and Canada/Australia /NZ 110,000 combined.
While it's true the Ruskies fought the german army to a standstill and effectively broke the Nazi war machine, when you consider the late arrival of the yanks theirs is a comparatively high death toll and huge sacrifice-it's disrespectful to the dead to sneer at anyones contribution.

Quite right. Of course the US helped win WW2 for the allies, as did loads of other countries, but the assertion from anyone that one nation 'won' the war is a bit sick/sad, and in fact downright thick. Now, from the posts I've read only one person seems to have claimed that:

Rollo, don't feign offence or pretend that someone has dissed your entire nation just because they've encountered a single US citizen they didn't like, it's ridiculous. There are wankers in all countries, and the UK and US are not exceptions.

What you perhaps don't get is that we Brits take the piss out of ourselves just as freely as we take the piss out of everyone else, just try not to take it personally. Mind you, you lot did elect Dubbya , jesus.

There's no doubt that GW Bush has decreased US popularity but many times he just gives legitimacy to the anti-Americanism that is already there and was there long before Bush's presidency. There will be anti-Americanism for as long as the USA is successful, we choose to watch the movies and TV programmes or eat the burgers.
