by all means drink the coffee at the dealers' dem rooms and deliberate on a new purchase, but I think that a different approach is required for second hand hifi, especially as there's people about who will know
Personally I see absolutely no difference with buying 2nd hand kit from an individual, and when I sell kit 2nd hand and someone comes round for a demo I expect them to do just that. That is, listen to it and buy it if they like it. If a seller isn't happy to do this then fine, they can just say so.

(note: I'm not commenting on the specifics of rockhopper's/mr cat's prospective sale, but rather responding to kennyk's comments)

hi rock - quick query regarding the amp - you mentioned that you connect this to your av amp, are you able just to use the av amp remote to control the volume whilst watching dvds..?

this being as I currently use the nad to drive my main pseakers.

cheers
Yes. This is how I use it with my Yamaha, i'll show you when you come down. I connect the Yams front left/right outputs to the X80 inputs, and leave the X80 at about 10 - 11 o'clock, then use the Yam to control the whole volume. Simple as that..

Sounds excellent too.
