Curt - they seem to be working fairly well now - even though in non-ideal circumstances... Not sure why? Spike settling or something? The bass is still not EXACTLY as I want it, but it's that "sound in my head" that's probably unobtainium when it comes to hifi! I think they make a good range of compromises to produce a good sound - I think they're staying :)

I'll try the Dynaudio stands later on once the cabs are paid for... :)

Dom, I would have to agree you have a point there. ATC's do that trick very well and I am still trying to figure out how they do it! I have heard other speakers do it to some degree but they tend to sound harsh and up front while the ATC's do it without showing either of those traits????

I think it's called an "open window on the sound" - exactly what's needed in a studio :)

As you say though - they don't go harsh and up front - must be those lush tweeters and the goofy-looking midrage units on the larger cabs???

Curt - just noticed your stocking comment. I am buying a pair and a banana, as I need some money and a stick up job seems a good idea! Once I'm loaded and home-free, I can eat the banana while grooving to my good bass, while sitting on a pile of non-sequential bills - tee hee!! Only joking - but a lottery win wouldn't go amiss right now...

Dom, you have hit the nail on the head there, I use the term "looking into the mix" to describe the ATC sound. May not be the most relaxing way to listen at home but it sure is full of surprises!

Good news re the Dyns Dom. Could it be that speakers literally need a bit of settling in when they get a new home (or dare I say it we can get used to them as well)? I only ask because after my disappearing bass episode the bass seems to be back - I put it down to a slight adjustment in placement and some strategically placed cushions - but a bit of fiddling again last night back how they were and they still sound good. A mystery.

Exactly what's needed in a hi-fi system, too. Your earlier comment about ATCs sounding duff with a duff front end is fair enough, although Oedipus might not agree!

Ah - but if the window's clean and the view's bad... ;) Hey, the analogy works :)

Uncle Ants - maybe - I'm not sure "getting used to it" is part of it, since they sounded excellent up to that one bad day, and now sound excellent again! Some tweaking might not go amiss, but I DO think settling down might be something to do with it...

If the view's bad, change the view, don't blame the clean window.

    And that's a little miss-spelt.

Everyone says your system is shite, btw.

Oh, I fully admit that I'm only going on several second-hand reports about Tony's, er, system. None was complimentary.

This came as no surprise given the accessories which he uses & promotes. Sadly for Tony, no sale when he brought them up to Glasgow. He's been moaning ever since. :)
