belgo noord is still around as far as i know but despite being a regular haunter of camden a few years ago i've never eaten there. i don;t get into the capital too much now as i no longer live there and with congestion charging and random public transport it's more effort than it's worth. plus the 'black nose goo' syndrome you get after wandering london for a day is worrying.
    cheers

I have enjoyed many a luncheon in said establishment and can recommend the food as well as the beer. In fact Wells generally is a great pace for eating and drinking - mainly I suspect because there's little else to do round here but eat and drink :)

    Fave beers?

    Greene King Abbot
    Flowers Original
    Butcombe
    Butcombe Gold
    Marstons Pedigree
    Tennents Extra

It also struck me that Hoegaarden "Grand Cru" is a rather odd name. Given that there's so much hostility between the Flemish and French Belgians it's odd for a Belgain beer to have a name that's Flemish (Hoegaarden) and French (Grand Cru) at the same time :)

Greene King Abbot is a nice drink - incidently, had a couple of pints with lunch today and also some IPF Flowers later on. Good choices. Cornish Rebellion and London Pride are also worth checking out.

I'm affraid I one of the Wetherspoons generation, its the only pubs apart from the local bars near me I tend to go in. I like the none smoking areas. The beer is pretty crap though. There is a great real ale bar near me which serves good bear but its full of my ex teachers so I tend to avoid it.

These days though I hardly seem to go to any pub.

Ah beer, one of my favourite topics!

AT, just because your old teachers drink in a pub is no reason to avoid it. You're probably the one missing out, they might even send the odd free pint your way.

Caffreys was ruined about 2-3 years ago when they dropped the percentage of it from 5.8 down to about 4.7, purely because of the amount of people that were getting absolutely trolleyed on it. A bad reason to change a beer. Anyway, enough about mass-rpoduced keg beers. Cask ales are where it's at, and I'm afraid Bass very rarely fits the bill as a good one. There's the odd pub, and they're very rare, that can actually serve a decent pint of it.

We're lucky here in Exeter to have 3 or 4 really good real ale pubs, the Well House, Great Western Hotel, Double Locks and also the Bridge Inn a couple of miles down the road in Topsham.

    So, some recommendations.

    O'Hanlons Port Stout
    O'Hanlons Red
    O'Hanlons Myrica
    RCH Old Slug Porter
    RCH Pitchfork
    Otter Ale
    Stonehenge Shephards Crook
    Butcombe Best & Butcombe Gold
    Greene King Abbott
    Exmoor Stag
    Hop Back Summer Lightning
    Timothy Taylor's Landlord

plus a myriad of others that I've forgotten about!

    All hail the ale!

The last time I was in there me and my mate were chatting about my old school (primary school) saying how crap it was for maths, I turned round and the person on the other table was one of my teachers from primary school!.

I think I'm going to through a spanner in the works by saying that I prefer german beers..? especially heffe...yum! - by law, typical german beer must contain water, hops and barley (check the ingrdients on the side of becks, for example)

I've never seen the ingrdeiants listed on uk beer..? I'm assuming that its because it contains preservatives etc..?

    and hoegarden, thats real nice,

I remember years ago going round the wrexham lager brewery [now long gone I think]. Apart from being the best brewery visit I've been to by miles [cos they let you drink as much as you could swallow in about 1.5 hrs], the other intersting feature is that they brewed fancy German slop for the UK - like Lowenbrau..

A visit round the shop floor revealed it had just the same amount of garbage added as any other beer..

Me and the missus went over to dublin last Paddy's day. We had all the stuff about "Guiness being so much nicer than this shite over here, so much cleaner and you don't get hangovers!!!". Yeah right! Me thought. I'd probablt had less than 10 pints of the stuff before going there and wasn't a big fan. However, when there, we were drinking about 10 a day with no hangover, and not feeling overly drunk! :guiness: Good stuff :D
