Best bargain EVER!!!!!!

Well, after being rudely awoken with a stinking Shiraz hangover, I now have a front room full of boxes waiting to be unpacked - all looks good so far, with all the cabinets being in spotless condition (no dinks, scratches, veneer mismatches as far as I can tell) and reassuringly heavy. If I get it set up in the movie room in time, and my head can stand it, I might give 'The Two Towers' a blast this afternoon.

Chris.

I had no idea that Alvin Gold was a wine buff as well a hifi coin-o-sir - the things you learn.

Can anyone recommend some decent wall brackets? I think I'm going to take advantage of the fact that the little 300c's can be placed hard up against the wall and get them off the Target stands that I have been using for the rear surrounds, but I haven't a clue about this sort of thing. They'll be mounted onto a solid brick wall so I can be fairly flexible although the cheaper the better.

Ta,

Chris.

Ok smart arse :D if u read my thread properly tho i did say that spec can be decieiving...

I did read it; I was being a fly in the ointment - he he!!!

Seriously here though - how much space do the BIG AE floorstanders need?

I wander if they'd be a good halfway house between the Epos ES14s and those problematic Dyn 52s - at THIS price, it could be worth a bread-and-water month... I LOVED the sound of properly-set-up AE 109s....

Dom

The plinths have a footprint of 13" by 9 1/2", and according to the AE owner's manual, they should be kept away from back and side walls by a distance of 12 - 16" - they do have bungs, though, should they be required. I'm still in the process of setting them up but, once I'm there, I'll report back further.

Hope that's of use,

Chris.

Nice one Chris ;) It MAY be that that would be too far into the room, but I can't really use wall reinforcement speakers either, due to that sodding mantlepiece/cardboard walls/window bay :(

got home from work
took the dogs out
walking back to the house i noticed a van.....

that'll be a pair of 309's then.

i had no idea at all that i had bought them, let alone that they were going to be delivered.
checked my bank and the money is out.

they seem fine though, bit of grubbyness on a corner but worth £150 nonetheless.

running them in now

thanks for the heads-up, saved me at least £500 as i was in the market for a pair of new speakers

So they just knew you were thinking about it and sent them out to you?

Anyone any ideas of stock levels? I might be interested in some of these, but will have to wait for funds.

Also, and links to reviews and such? I've not heard any AE speakers so not really sure what to expect.

MO :)

no.
what happened was this
i rang them on three occasions for an order form, they did'nt send me one.
i cut and paste the order form posted on this thread and sent it off to them.
they did'nt make any contact at all. they had my phone no.s and email.
they just sent the buggers!

glad they did tho

if you are not too worried about sending your card details off it may be worth trying.

i suppose it was a risk

that is a risk. reviews are often balls though and i imagine this speaker is in WHF territory so it would doubtless get ***** anyway. i just figured that at £150 it was a no brainer. but then i can afford to lose £150.

Let's hope they're communications are better should any problems arise.

Keep us posted on your impressions when you've had time to play.

OK
I have tried the 309s the 300s and the 307.

the 307 is shite, but it is the first centre speaker i have heard so they may all be shite.
It is designed to promote human voices. great the human voices all sound great! but any sound of a similar frequency will also be amplified.

The 309 is one of the best speakers I have heard. I prefer the sound to that of the Willison Benesch ACTII but that is probablt down to personal preferance.

The first thing that attracted me to the 309 was the fact it was in a £30,000 surround sound setup...abliet as the rear surround, but it must be quality to get in there!

Only downside it sound very poo out of the box and takes a fortnight of continous play to break in! but then...WOW!!!!

The 300 is GREAT! cannot compliment it enough. For its size is is unbeatable, it has bass that makes a mockery of many floor standers. Clear sound and very impressive quality.

Downside, it provides a VERY directional sound. You will know exactly where your speakers are until quite loud volumes (which it manages with ease)

According to my contact in Acoustic Energy they have 3-4 pairs of 309 , 6 pairs of 300s and i did not askabout the rest.

Hurry up and buy these so i can sell my spares on eBay.

Ihave had a few faults with mine in the past, they swop rapidly for new with little delay.

The only major fault I had was when I plugged the 309s in when they arrived in the post at 8am without letting them adjust to the humidity/temp in my flat.

long story short, condensation fored on the outside of the speaker (probably inside too...maybe even on the crossover. Wet crosovers go bang!
it went bang...
I am glad my amps have a minimum resistance cutout!

Just tell them to phone you as you dont want to put details on a form. (I wouldnt personally)

tried that three (3) times with no result - zero - zip - nada.

sent my details - got the speakers

Hmmm... that to me makes them sound like rather poor speakers? Surely that completley destroys any pretence at a soundstage?
