All of the best speakers I have heard come without a box. Thinking about Quad, Maggies, Apogees, and Martin logans. Although all of these were flawed in some ways they all share an uncoloured, unboxy sound. also I think that dipoles drive larger rooms better.

    Gotta be Apogee's

The Diva's are truly amazing...bit pricey though and not as easy to drive as my Duetta Sig's.

Some Alon's I heard at a dealers were also exceedingly good, cannot remember the model though!!..about 7k i think.

I once made a point of getting to hear a pair of the Wilson Cub speakers as they looked absolutely identical to my own Dynaudios and I thought I may pick up a few tips for modding up mine. Hearing them was such a let down you wouldn't believe it, slow, bass heavy and boring would describe them nicely.

Needless to say my own speakers stayed strictly standard.

I didn't enjoy not liking them at all. I had plans for Corian cabinets the lot, I'm just telling it like it happened.

It was not aimed at you, it must be a petty hate, you where not the first to say it, and here in Portugal it is common as well...
