You're welcome  Like Issac said in the last thread the 1.25's are a fantastic (Yamaha) engine, in fact one of the best engines I've ever used, very smooth and revvy, almost bike like - feels much bigger than it is too.

Only trouble is the car it's screwed to, my Fiesta had water ingress in the passenger footwell and through the lining in the drivers door, knocking rear suspension and the heater matrix packed up completely....it was two years old....

AT - If it's of interest, the people across the road from me have a fiesta 1.25 Zetec for sale. I can have a look over it if you're interested, once I get home at the weekend?

Isaac that would be great, its a bit far but with a bit of beer money I have a mate that lives near Failsworth so I am sure I can convince him to drive me up to look at it.

Sounds unlucky RDD. My dads Fiesta has been ok considering its done 14,000 miles. Its just a noisy old one thing its the old Endura unit. Suspension bushes can be a problem but my machanic can sort that out for £100 inc wishbones.

Yeah, my girlfriends brother uses one to do a 50mile round trip daily with no major issues as yet, think mine was a bit of a lemon.

Other than that it was great, it handled fantastically and was quite comfortable, looked smart too as it was the Zetec (in '99 that was like the Zetec-S was on the later ones) so had the wide alloy wheels, fogs and spoiler etc

I thought all the 95 onwards had the Zetec-S fitted? The only others are the 1.3 or the 1.8d. Sadly on autotrader atm the only 1.25s all seem like sheds.

AT - there's a station in my village. 30 min train journey from victoria, about £9 return.

I found that I have a partial pic of it (I was taking a pic of mine, but it was in the background):

Thanks David, Isaac is going to have a quick look at it over the weekend and if it turns out to be ok I will go and have a look at it.

I am just feeling a bit sick when I think of what headphones I could have bought for £100 :(

I'm sure its not the first.....I dare say it won't be the last.

I wish all my mistakes had just cost £100.

There was actually a 1.4 16v which was an old unit and a bit pants to be honest, it was no more punchy than the 1.25. AFAIK the Zetec-S is a spec which refered to the later 1.6 16v by the way rather than the engine name itself which is just Zetec :)

The one Issac's found has the same wheels mine did and looks tidy, I'd give it a look for sure.

Wasn't the 1.4 Zetec fitted to the later MK3's though? And the MK4 and a 1.4 Zetec-S. I am confused now myself, I know the old MK3 had 1.4 CVH engines which were noisy buggers, they sounded like you they were going to blow if you reved them, CVH engines are pretty rare now.

I will probably go and look at that Fiesta if Isaac thinks its worth a look.

I've also come to the conclusion that there will be no trader selling a car for sub £1k unless its a shed as they have to make profit.

:D There was an early 1.4 but I don't think it was called a Zetec or was 16v, there has been a lot of overlapping though the years which confuses things. What I can say is the MK4 that you're looking at had a 1.4 16v in the range that was of indeterminate age and origin ;)

The only car called a Zetec-S was a 1.6 and was the face lifted MK4. I've looked at the one near Issac again and that looks exactly the same as mine was, which just had a badge with Zetec (the model name) on the back - in which case it should have white dials etc.

    hmmmm....

cvh was the new thing when i started out

they took over from the old OhV kent engines during the 80s.

if you don't CVH you certainly wouldn't like the old OHV mills!!! :D

best go for the newer technology if you can though

    Don't be TOO sure.....

All retailers are desperate to shift stuff just now; you just have to (really) wary.

...(but) I would certainly take a look at Isaacs neighbours car if you can fit it in.

I will do, just one minor problem insurance on Fiestas is a bit more pricey than Corsa's etc, if its the SI model its a sporty Ford, in a Manchester post code, you can see what means for the insurance premiums.

I will get a quote in a minute just to make sure I can afford it, I can't see an Si badge making much difference over say an LX badge.

I have also learnt from this that if the has sevice stamps ignore them unless I can see receipts for work carried out (its easy to fake a stamp, its much harder to fake receipts).
