Cables because we so need a discussion about them again

To whom it may concern, we don't mod because of any editorial bias, but if we do we consider it for the good of the forum, and to preserve rational debate.
Thanks

Andy, if I may be permitted to step in here, I'd just like to state that whilst I understand your annoyance at a number of posts, none of these breached AUP. However, personal attacks most certainly are against AUP. Also the moderator's (any one of us) decision is considered final, so any post critising the moderation isn't a good idea either.

Drat- beaten by Richard.

First, I have not had the pleasure to meed LS, but Dev I have met.

I have no reason to believe that a deliberate Bias is being excerted, but I do notice that the moderation seems from where I stand arbitrary. In many cases I have seen quite nasty personal attacks against a variety of forum members left standing unedited.

I would recommend (having had the chore of modding the TNT-Audio Yahoo group for a good while) to first officially warn off members that overstep the bounds of good taste and/or the AUP's, BASED ON THE WRITTEN guidelines (that means you have to have a book before you can throw it at someone) and to then apply these guidelines rigidly, disregarding personal bias.

That failing a simple "free speech" statement should indemnify and you can save yourself any moderation whatsoever.

Ciao T

Firstly if it is arbitrary it's only because of the limited time we have to spend on it. I and the others all have jobs and would like to keep them.
Secondly if anyone is offended by any post they can use the report post button. This happens infrequently, so we can only presume that there are few problems.
Thirdly T, I have a very public facing job, and spend most of my days resolving conflict. You may have missed the AUP, it's at the top of the page if you have. But it is there and is enforced. Thank-you for your advice, but as you yourself have never crossed the line as far as I am aware, you will be unaware how we prefer to deal with trangressors, and it's not taking them outside for a good slap with a dead fish, appealing as that may be on many an occasion.

I'm going to prune this thread now, and remove any posts that are fanning flames, then I shall close it as it has become rather futile. I rather hoped it would die on it's feet rather than grow legs, but heyho such is life.

Although this now seems to have turned into a discussion on moderation...

As Lordsummit has said, we have jobs. And remarkably enough, when we do get a chance to read the forum, and maybe even post, we'd rather contribute and get involved in threads that interest us (just as most forum goers do) than wade through everything moderating this, moderating that.

For myself, things are even more complicated. There are a lot of threads on this forum I would love to contribute to but I do not because of commercial sensitivities (or people may think I'm bashing a competitor's product, promoting the products I work on or the manufacturers I work with, etc). Consequently I take accusations of lack of impartiality quite personally when I am missing out on quite a bit of interesting discussion because I am maintaining it.

I accept that we don't do a perfect job at moderating. We're human too. I do think that the moderators do a very good job and I am ever thankful to them.
