    I'm 24 next friday!!!

Why the f@ck have I got chicken pox!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's something you get when you're a kid isn't it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I look like a complete arse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to bed sunday night with what I thought was just a headache. I ended up in bed for pretty much the next 48hours, only getting up to be sick.

Woke up the next day feeling a bit better and ready to face the world.......... until I looked in the mirror!!!!

I'm now covered in the things!!!

Feel free to laugh. Every single person I know who I've spoke to has done so with no attempt at hiding it!

You poor sod. That's not a nice thing to have. I thought I had it quite late (I was 16 when I got it), they say it's worse in older people too than if you have it as a kid. Oh well, some time off to get the tunes going?

I caught it in the first week of my present job, I was wondering why I was coming out in big spots, and then I got sent to the nurse at work, who sent me home for a week. Great first impressions at work

Bad luck MO. Nasty thing to get.

You can get it at any age. At least you'll never get it again.

Get back to bed. And stop making that clucking noise!

    Nightmare mO  .
I had Shingles a few years back and that was bad enough :(.

Not strictly true  . A friend of mine is a biologist and she states that there is actually quite a high risk of catching it again, contrary to popular opinion. So beware !!!!!:p!!!!!

Shingles is aweful - the side effects can last for years after. My grandfather caught it in December 98 and still gets pain from it now.

    Hope you recover soon, MO!

I had it under my right arm, stretching across my back and chest.
The Doc said I had it pretty mild and as it basically follows a certain strand of nerves it can spread to anywhere.

Down there  and even across your eyeballs :chunder: .

Mo, stocked up on plently of Camomile Lotion :D ?

You don't get chicken pox again. But the virus you get never leaves you and is what comes back to haunt you as shingles. Not sure why a biologist would think otherwise.
Unlucky to get late in life, but if you have friends with children who've not had it yet, I'd recommend you give it to them. Much less of an issue in childhood and one of those illnesses you actually encourage children to catch!

I remember being sent to a chicken pox "party" when I was a kid. The idea was that when one kid cought it the parents would put the word around so all the other kids could come round and catch it. It worked - I got a serious dose of it - totally covered in the damn spots. The doc said it was impressive.

Anyway, hope it clears up for you soon, and don't scratch the spots as they'll scar. I still have the remenants of a scar on my forehead 27 years after I caught it.

I LOVED chicken pox (I was 12) - even though it hit me in the middle of a holiday that had to be cut short. OK I felt like rubbish, but I LOVE camomile lotion. OK so I'm weird like that but...

It's much less nasty than Measles IMHO.

Shingles is nasty stuff - my sister caught that off of either me or my neighbour, and ME came in on the back of it. Unfortunately for the rest of the human race, ME turned her into a psycho slut total bitch... Ooops - sorry went off on one there, but yeah, shingles is grim!

But again, she would not have caught shingles from anyone. Shingles is your own chicken pox virus that you had earlier in your life which has been dormant in your body. If you expose someone who has not had chicken pox to someone with shingles, they get chicken pox. The virus is the same, and the reaction to first contact is always the same. It's just with children, the illness is relatively mild - some only experience a few spots.

If you are interested read this Q&A Link..

As for whether you could get chickenpox more then once probably depends whether you get a good immune response to the first infection for the first time. If there is any real virologists here please enlighten us all.

Not a virologist but physician. Have never seen (nor know of) any second infections with zoster. Trials are underway in the UK with the vaccine, but current opinion is efficacy is much less than that stated on the link Wofgang gave.

Up until the early hours of this MOrning any itching was quite mild. Then it started with the (what feels like) thousands in my hair. I've only got a couple of mm of hair so can feel them easily. Then the ones on my shoulders, belly, back, legs etc ( ) all started screamin to be scratched too. Time for the calamine lotion! Worked a treat! Really nice feeling actually :) Just one problem though, how am I meant to get the stuff off? I took a shower this MOrning, but with not being able to scrub the stuff properly, and having not been able to shave for a few days, i've got it stuck in my facial hair :D Oh well, keeps with the theme of looking like a tit I guess

They're heading south at a scary rate! And though none on the eyeballs, my eyelids are playing host to quite a few. As are my ears, inside my MOuth and nostrils, and I think a few are coming up on my palms (which will put an end to the one thing which has been making staying in bed alone barable! :p ).

Fill the bath with calamine and just spend the next few days in there. Make sure you have a supply of strong booze and smoking materials of choice.

If you start laying eggs, you're in trouble, otherwise the prognosis is good.

I've never tried to lay an egg. I imagine the idea is similar to when the guy lays the apple pie in American Pie yeah? ;)

Also, I don't think I've actualy eaten anything for about 4 days, and don't particularly feel like doing so either

A little research, shows that the use of the word chicken is to do with chick-peas! Which apparantly the spots look like.............. I don't see it MOself. I wish someone had told me earlier though. When my girlfriend asked where I'd have caught it from I came clean and confessed to that one time when I slipt, fell, oops! Hey look! There's a chicken in my pants! One pecker to another etc etc etc.....

Well, I'm pretty sure I've had chicken pox twice...

First time was when I was 5. Seemed to remember it was a days or two after attending a school mate's birthday party. I wasn't aware of anybody at the party or at school having chicken pox, but guess someone I came in close proximity to must have had it seeing as this was my first ever infection.

Second time was when I was 15. Don't thnk it was shingles as it wasn't painful, just loads of itchy spots, as before. And there was definitely a chicken pox epidemic going around school at the time, so that's what make me sure I did catch it again rather than having a dormant virus re-awakened.
