I'm using an Ikea Corras here for my kit, with some extra MDF shelves on inner tubes under the cd player and amp for a bit of vibration absorbance. I keep meaning to put some spikes on the bottom in place of the standard castors, but never get round to it...might be a plan for today actually since I do have some spikes kicking around...

Still undecided. Not sure I could go through all that sawing again. Don't for one moment expect that it would affect the sound. It would look more hi-tech though. It's using blu-tak right now.

The main shortcomings at the momennt are:

    1) The pine chests rock back and forth on the carpet and swallow half the bass.

    2) The room acoustics muddle what's left of the bass plus there's two much echo.

Speakers stands are on order to fix problem 1.

I am designing some bass traps and absorbers to deal with problem 2.

No offence taken. It was merely confusing :D

    Hmmm,
anyone else notice a large portion of this thread disappearing?

Dev - yes I did some pruning

Those ikea stands look good. unfortunatley my wife likes me to have fronts on my hifi rack...so i have a hifi cupboard. Which is kinda reasonable, only guys think hifi looks good any way.

anyone know any closed fronted racks in maple?

I've been interested in some of these stands for a while. The challenge however is that my Electrocompaniet is about 20 by 20 inches- are any of these budget miracles able to accomodate something like that?

The LACK measures about 21½ inches squared, so theoretically it could accomodate your Electrocompaniet. But I imagine that it in itself is also literally a "Ton of Fun" so the question becomes whether or not the LACK would be able to handle the weight without screaming!

One possibility would be to simply use a combination of LACK tabletops, as I've done with my Roksan Xerxes.20:

P.S. Amazing what a little bit of editing can do to breathe life back into a tired thread...well done!

Good thoughts but the reason why I want to dispense with my Optimum is that the ECI3 is already on the top of that and I would like to have my turntable on the top. The ECI3 weighs about 13-14kg- is that LACK crushing territory?

for a short while I had a 33kg amp and 12kg pre on top of that, and it was fine, currently using an Ikea TV bench, nice big top and can take 100kgs

Certainly not, in fact it's just about the same as my Xerxes. (Mind you, I've seen some large Electrocompaniets so I was guessing >30kg+).

The ATC amp that you see in the first post weighs 19 kg :)

LACK is not weak. I sat on it to seat the blu-tak firmly :D

Hey dexter just getting curious what that lamp thingy is on your TT.

Have you taken the old "put a blue LED inside your CDP to make it sound great" just little bit to far? =-)

Peter, it is the IKEA KABY clamp spotlight for £9.99 (most appropriate as this is an IKEA-based thread! :D ) Really sets the mood for those late-night listening sessions!

    In what way?

    Best, Dex

Doh! I'm being a bit slow this week

I've now done the very obvious and put the pine chests on the black slabs that the Castles used to sit on. The bass is now much improved. In fact the sound generally is much improved. They can still rock a bit but it's not so bad. Can't wait for the proper stands to arrive...

    Here's my recent Ikea addition:

Prior to that I was using a Mana 4 tier amp stand. That actually worked really well with my old Naim kit, but seemed to rather upset the Meridian transport, so had to go. The good news is that the sale of the Mana nearly paid for the 500 transport.
