F1: Alonso proud to have beaten Schumacher

I have/had an Atlas F1 subsciption. It merged with Autosport and recettly changed the layout of the website.

Is it me or is the feel different? I used to like the fairly international, non-partisan approach of Atlas but now the site seems to have taken on a British-dominated slant. If it stays like that, I probably won't renew my subsciption next year.

I preferred it before but couldn't say why. Hadn't detected a British-dominated slant but then again I am British!!

With regard to the teams. Does anyone know if either of the new Honda teams will be HRC backed? or is that purely a motorcycle division?

I for one would love to see a HRC works Honda team in F1.

As far as I am aware they are purely a motorcycle division.

The Super Aguri team is trying to recruit people for their team right now.

We already have our team in place.

They work with motorcycles we work with racing cars. I would struggle to transfer my very specific knowledge of F1 cars to bikes and they would struggle to transfer their motor bike knowledge to F1. Of course we coudl do that but it woudl take quite a bit of time to get up to speed.

Markus - I also don't like the new Autosport/Atlas site as much as the old one but for now I'll keep my subscription as it's still IMO the best source of F1 news on the net (or anywhere for that matter). At least the forums still have th Atlas branding :)

I wonder how long Biranit Goren (bira, the editor of autosport.com) will last in the corporate world of Haymarket publishing.

Michael.

OK well I was really trying to say that if they were a car division I would have loved to see them in F1. I had a feeling they were just a motorcycle division but I wasn't sure. Obviously I understand that the two forms of motorsport are entirely different.

"Ian - are you now officially a Honda employee?"

I think I am still 45% Honda. It may be end of November or end of December when we become Honda employees.

"Does the theory that Adrian Newey leaving McLaren to work with Red Bull is a step towards Kimi joining Ferrari in 2007 make sense ?
What with Ferrari engines powering Red Bull next year."

Cannot see why you should make that connection!!

Hi Ian,
There is much speculation that Kimi Raikkonen is going to be driving for Ferrari in 2007 on various forums. I was wondering if Adrian Newey was prevented by his contract from directly joining a " works " team, but that given the link with RBR - Ferrari could draw on Newey's expertise surreptitiously.
It would be interesting to see a Newey designed RBR with Ferrari power, against a Rory Byrne designed Ferrari with the same engine - if this was allowed to happen. If Rory Byrne is leaving at the end of 2006, Adrian could step into the Ferrari role from RBR.

Will you be watching Grand Prix Masters ? :)

"Will you be watching Grand Prix Masters ?"

Saw the last lap.

Listened to Nige whinging that his car was rubbish (implying it was far worse than anyone elses) and that it was only his skill that got round it to enable him to win.

Beating someone 15 years older than him!!

Did they make these cars with much bigger seats and cockpit openings to get the drivers in and out?

Did you watch it?

In the UK we had Murray Walker commentating which, had I known beforehand, would have been enough to get me to watch the whole race!

Ian

The cars are old Reynard CART chassis, so built fairly solidly and presumably historically of suitable dimensions to fit older ex-F1 drivers. FWIW when I see a modern F1 car I'm always surprised how big the cockpits are, I think as a consequence of relatively recent regulation.
