Fav integrated amp around £400

    Most 40 watt solid state amps would drive most 86db speakers more than loud enough as well , so I am failing to see whats so different.

    depends how loud is loud enough. valve amps clip more pleasingly to the ear than solidstate amps do. this is why you get the nonsense phrase 'valve watts are bigger than solid state watts'.

    I hope she likes it!

    Very brave of her to plug straight for a valve amp.

    If she hates it, Im sure she could sell it on here for almost what she paid for it.

    Does she have speakers and cd player already?

    Curious.

    Arcam CD 72 (or 73?) and B&W something speakers. The speakers may be changed as well but until she got a new amp she doesn't know if they are crap or what.

    She'll like that I'm sure. It's very hard to think of anything for less than a significant amount of money that is preferable
