I suspect Firefox 0.91 may represent the point I finally move away from IE. I've used Firefox since about 0.6, but there has always been something buggy or not quite right about it that has sent me back to IE. I've been using 0.91 for a few days now and have not had the itch to go back. I love the tab browsing, especially the way you can open a whole folder of bookmarks at one go – I can load all the forums I visit in one go now which is well cool! The only thing I dislike about it is that the address bar still doesn't parse bookmarks the way IE does, so I've had to reorder the way I do things a bit – I used to bring sites up by simply typing the first two letters of my bookmark into the address bar.

Anyway, Firefox is really starting to look like a mature product now. Many sites it used to screw up seem to function correctly etc. It will be very interesting to see how M$ respond to what is now definitely a credible challenge. Allegedly XP Service Pack 2 is scheduled for release at end of month (I'll believe it when I see it!) and will add additional security and pop-up blocking to IE, but still no tabbed browsing etc.

    Tony.

    Tony,
have you thought about adding the Adblock and Quicknote extentions? I think you may find that they enhance your surfing pleasure.

TonyL: if you right click the bookmark and choose Properties you can add a Keyword. When you type that keyword in the location bar you'll goto the bookmarked address. You can combine this with a %s in the URL. Thus for Zerogain searching you might have:
    URL: http://www.zerogain.com/forum/search.php?do=process&query=%s
    Keyword: z

So now in the location bar you could type "z Firefox" and it would do a Zerogain search.

That is very cool! I had no idea you could do that...

    Tony.

PS I Haven't tried any extensions yet - I'll have a look around.

Selection extentions 101 - Building a better Mozilla

A quick idea of what extention might be of use to a new user as when visiting the extention room one can be over awed by the sheer number of extentions or addons now available.

Cheers for the link Auric. I particularly like the Firesomething extension, as I'm now browsing zerogain with Mozilla Waterant :).

I might give it another try thanks to Auric's link. The fact that none of the extensions would work when I tried v 0.9 ensured that it survived no more than 5 minutes the last time. Lets see what it can do this time :) If it can impress me, then it really is doing well ;)

Is there anyway to stop messages like this popping up all of the time, on links such as that one Auric posted to - its quite annoying.

    Try Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Security -> Allow SSL 2, SSL 3 & TLS 1

Does that fix it or are you talking about the pop-up when you mouse over a thread, if it's the second that's the forum not the browser, it does it in IE.

Those options were enabled already, but I disabled them and then re-enabled them and it seems to have fixed it.

If nothing else so far, I am digging the downloadable "Noia" theme for Firefox, looks really colourful and eye catching.

If I find a page that wont display in Firefox properly, that "Display in IE" plugin will come in handy!

Is there an option for mouse gestures in this thing, like in Avant / Opera?

OMG, it actually renders www.microsoft.com properly!!!

Edit: And my bank works properly.... this is certainly more promising than I last remember it.

Thanks. That works a treat. I have had no problems with it up until now, so I'll give it some time.

The mouse gestures work better than the ones in Avant anyway. Avant couldnt decide whether I wanted a menu or to go back half the time.

Its doing very well so far - the first thing I had to do though was dump those horrible fisher price buttons but now thats done, it looks a lot more professional.

I tried out mouse gestures a while back and couldn't get the hang of them - more trouble than they are worth IMO. Paul, are you using the Noia theme? I tried it but it's far too "busy" for me. The Qute them is much nicer (I wish they had kept it as the default Firefox theme :( ).
