Freezing CDs?

We don't know that fire-breathing dragons don't exist, do we David?

.....best I can do.... :)

In the same way that it's possible there's a Morris Minor orbiting Saturn.

interesting...that you stayed within the confines of our solar system , on a clear night you can see so much more.

from what i've seen, mention of the freezing experiment seems to be directed toward improving the sound of the anyway flawed or inferior quality CD's using the reflective aluminium layer. Mobile Fidelity stopped using these, preferring Gold due to lower error and longer life, they carried out tests at their japanese pressing plant which involved subjecting ten gold and ten randomly purchased aluminium discs to varying levels heat and humidity, the gold discs showed no deteriation after 30cycles whereas most of the aluminium discs became unplayable and all showed an increase in error rate
Perhaps these results may seem obvious, but at least the attempt was made to examine the differences, to reveal the inconsistency of the cheaper substitute of aluminium and expose it's faults.
I would hazard a guess that a few of the more thoughtful of characters knew this, they knew.. that they were being fobbed off with a cheaper alternative, that perhaps there was ways to enhance it, and if freezing is one of them, if it can find a gap in the cheap armour and manipulate what lies beneath for the better, all power to it.

:)

Spica, and we all know where the peer reviewed data for the tests resides.

Nowhere, cos it's marketing bullshit..

This looks like an argument for buying gold discs over ordinary ones, but it's hard to see any justification within it for putting CDs in the freezer!

James, I am not quite undestanding why it obviously bothers you so much.........what the xyz people do with their cds???

Well, there's absolutely no logical link between the alleged superiority of gold discs, and putting your CDs in the freezer, is there?

You may as well say you prefer dogs to cats, but frozen cats might be OK.

this is just getting fecking barmy now...

I was being a little sarcastic as in my opinion freezing a CD makes no difference, nor does any reputable source have data proving overwise :)

On a side note, I guess some of the better tracks to try as comparisons with frozen and unfrozen could be,

Madonna-Frozen
Imagination-Illusion
John Lennon-Imagine
The Who-Magic Bus

Anything from Vanilla Ice, Ice Cube or Ice T, Icicle Works maybe?

Anyone with other humerous CD titles worth freezing?

Saddam Hussain is not sat in the Cop Car, Fred Astaire is not the Cop, Adolph Hitler is not the Barber, Ronald Reagen is not the customer having his hair cut.

Freezing CD's does 'in my opinion' improve the sound quality :D
