all I can get is a blured picture of Exeter, am I missing something?
I suspect Exeter is not important in the scheme of things, so nobody's ever bothered to take a satellite photo. I guess that means you should think yourself lucky...most of the middle east, Iraq & Northern Libya is in glorious hi res....
I can get a beautifully hi-res view of my area in Lisbon and a large part of the countryside surrounding Lisbon Michael.
I expect that the USNO has been pixellated becuse it is viewed as a "National Treasure" and prehaps may be thought of as a high value target hence the attempt to hide it.
Has anyone found any other similarly-pixellated places? It seems odd that this one be singled out. It does contain the Vice President's official residence.
It does seem odd that the USNO has been pixellated out when, for example, the Pentagon and the White House haven't.
shutter control and pixellated places. Whilst browsing World Military Guide It is funny that the first airfield I picked Hatzerim can be seen but go a little closer then nothing. I reckon you could find lots of places both in the USA and the rest of the world where the google writ does not run. You could always try Russian Airfields, China, East Sea Fleet Naval Bases or one of a million other places for that matter and see just how close you can get.
Nothing particularly special happening here. It's simply that particular area, like the vast majority of the world, isn't covered by hi-res imaging. If I go to that airfield with the Google Maps client (not using a browser) I can zoom in as much as I like but obviously due to the lack of resolution it soon becomes hopelessly pixellated. This also happens if I choose any non-urban area of Portugal or the UK so nothing 'sinister' going on. You can tell which areas are covered by hi-res imaging as, from a high level, they appear much "browner" than the surrounding "natural colour" quadrants. Michael.
