I've heard good things about the Samsung range with the fluid dynamic bearings

OK, before I start I have to own up to working for a particular hard disc manufacturer - I fear that I would breach forum rules if I didnt. Also, ALL hard disc manufacturers have come a long long way in the past 3 - 5 years to satisfy acoustic, reliability and vibration needs of the CE market.

Saying that, I shall continue;)

Seagate makes the quietes hard discs on the market. They pioneered FDB (we have a very mature design - unlike our competitors) and indeed are the only manufacturer able to completely eliminate ball bearings from all of our spindle assemblies - seagate doesnt make any drive with ball bearings anymore.

There are some interesting changes happening right now, including SATAII, small form factors, ATA-7 etc - drives are becoming the norm for many products outside of the PC, server arena.

Check out www.Seagate.com for more details.
