    Ya boo,

TBH, most times it is a bit of friendly banter just to wind up our resident Naim evangenists.

Naim kit is excellent at what it does, its just that a lot of people have other priorities regarding the presentation they like, and many think its on the pricey side.

I,m all for banter and a good piss take, but some of the stuff seems...well....personal in some way , maybe I,m reading too much into it.

    Chaps

I shifted my CDS2 today to a guy who has gone home telling his wife they are not going to have the garage built that she was expecting. Brave man.

I am hoping to take delivery of the CDS3 fairly soon, so lets give it a week or two to warm up and you can come and have a listen and pig it up on whisky flavoured mince pies...speciality of Mrs Mick.

I will let you know when it has arrived.

    Regards

    Mick
Also, now that I am in phase (groan), things sound a lot better.

That was the 300iL but the one that came before it, the 300i (no L) was a bloody jackhammer :D

Owners of the 300iL must be well gutted that the 400xi has come out as not only is it, by all accounts, considerably better, it's also considerably cheaper (about £1500 cheaper  ) which means that 2nd hand values for the 300iL are now in the toilet :p

So, in a few years then, when Krell bring out the 500xi, owners of the 400xi will be pissed because its cheaper still:green:

    That's progress for you!

btw, thats one thing to be said in favour of Naim kit. They keep their products in the range for a very long time, and when they do bring out newer models, they are shitloads more expensive!

Heard both the former models, neither impressed me I'm afraid. I heard all the air and space, the detail, and the big bass. What i don't remember hearing is the music.

My feeling was that for c£3K, you got a £1500 amp and a £1500 badge with a big K on it;)

Mike B, Having owned a 300IL and heard at least 2, the last one with pro-zac,s 1.5's????, jack hammer was farthest from the trurth, I'll go with Merl, on this big, bloated mis timed bass & open top detail and enough space to Drive Mick P's ego through :D
Mick P, We don't mind you mocking our crappy systems as your still has a fooking mountain to climb before you can use the words acceptable naff mate :) But we still love you, so spill the beans how much is Paul darwin gunn aknock you off the rrp for being naims unoffical spokeperson, 30/40%. or will you have to put a good word in for for them at the Bristol show?.
Kev, to understand why we toloerate mick, you would nee to delve into the annals of naims achieves, surffice to say, he's a loveable old rogue, who's now correctly phased :D Wm

Someone will have to. I've yet to hear a Naim dem I could listen to for more than 10 seconds at Bristol.

Aha! So that's what it costs. Hmmm! Apart from the looks, how does the G08 differ from a 588. Does the 588 do the upsampling to 176.4 kHz

Mick, arh slumming it again earlier in the year eh? tut , tut I expected better, ask Darwin for an advance on furture ernings from passive naim advertising.
Chris, the 588 (as far as I'm know, doesn't go to 174.6. 88.2 maybe ???), it's pretty good for the cash, but far to 'nice' to be .real music' owners piece, but good all the same. Wm

    Chris,

I don't think the 588 featured MHR, the 568 processor did, but only to 88.2 or 96 depending on source.

The G08 sounds totally different to the 588/508 and earlier Meridians. Still not one for the Riddem boys though, but if your idea of singing along involves the words "scibby scibby sca dap dap deeee" then it's certainly one to check out;)

yes, I feel the sim will have more life, but the krell bigger bass and more open also more balls, personally, knowing you mike, try the Callisto 2200, should be nice though, but the krell should suit the relentless forward firing higher db output 64 better, as robbo said might tame those nasties, and give another one of the best digital sounds you're ever heard :D sorry couldn't resist, I'm being bad tonite  I reckon the krell will suit the 64 more than the sim, although I'd take the sim over the Krell, but thats me. Callisto 2200 - might be nice, shame it's about double the price of the others though  Even the 2100 is far more expensive (new) and both are very difficult to get hold of (new or s/h).

Nothing in the DAC64 to tame mate ;) but I'll let you know how it goes.

As someone who listens to real music all the time on a 588, I disagree totally.
