which network is the phone on? you could try getting it unlocked and then a sim for another company or just phone the company and get them to send you a reciept for the thing and then ask your company to unbar it - if they ask for proof of ownership they can check it with the reciept / other company. basicly get proof it's yours and then get them to unbar it.

    1) i may only be barred by the 3 network - if you are on orange and you get it 'unlocked' so you can use an orange sim in it it may work ok.
    if not.
    2) get '3' to send you proof that they have said the phone is yours and not stolen or fraudulent and then get orange to unbar it on their network (if you are with orange).

Charged it up and I'm unsure if it's barred. How would I tell?

With no sim card in it, it tells you no sim present but you can use the features like radio and camera.

With the 3 sim in it, you can use the phone features but when trying to call a number it says "your service does not allow calls to this number"

With a spare O2 (PAYG) sim I have it says "Phone Restricted" and has the option to "Undo". This prompts you to "enter restriction code".

So perhaps it's not barred? Can't seem to find any way of getting it unlocked. Is that what the restriction means? Network locked?
